GRANDFATHERCLOCK..i need to speed up the clock.. pendulem..higher or lower(adjustable nut)?
i have 2 1 is a little fast..2 is a little slow..yeh yeh add them divide by 2 the get the avarage....NO i need to know which direction to turn the adjustable nut at the bottom of the pendulem to speed/slow displayed time i assume..it seems to me that the lower the nut is, making the swing longer, would SLOW it therefor shortening the swing would speed it up..am i right??i figure im not so therefor i ask. i dont know where to place this question..it tried to get me to post it in automotive..so i cant decide between physics or crafts Thanx
Speaking from the way my clock works, if you shorten the pendelum, it swings faster.
An added note: Count the number of turns of the adjustment nut when you adjust the clock. Write it down and date it. When you check the clock for accuracy, try to do it at the same time as your adjustment. What you may find is that it was off by 2-1/2 minutes today, and is only off by 1 minute tomorrow. If you adjusted by 2 turns, and it speeded up by 1-1/2 minutes, you need to try something less than 2 turns, like maybe 1-3/4 turns. If you don't check the clock for three days, divide the amount of time it changed by three to determine how much it is off in 1 day. Then proceed as above.
One of the joys in having an old wind up clock is that you get to adjust it to your location, temperature, and humidity. And you have the pleasure of getting it to tell the correct time, all the time.
