A compressor running in a "start-stop" mode operates more efficiently if the pressure trapped in the compressor head and discharge line is released after each pump-up cycle. This allows smoother starts and the use of a motor with lower starting torque. The most convenient way to release this trapped pressure is to use a Load Genie combination check and unloader valve, available only from Contol Devices. Simply install this unique valve in the compressor discharge line, and the Load Genie does the rest! The Load Genie senses air flow when the compressor is running and closes an unloading orifice port. When airflow stops (such as when the pressure switch turns off the motor), the Load Genie opens the unloading orifice to release head pressure, and a built-in check valve keeps receiver air from leaking back into the discharge line and compressor head. Alternative methods rely on external unloading valves mounted on the pressure switch or compressor. These external unloading valves are connected with appropriate tubing and fittings to the compressor discharge line or compressor head. A tank check valve is also required. These systms, then, consist of the unloading valve, connecing tubing with appropriate fittings, a tank check valve, and the labor to install it all. Compare this to the single component installation of a Load Genie, and the advantages are apparent. |

Winter is around the corner and it is time to start thinking about winterizing your RV. It's important to properly prepare your RV for the winter so that when you are ready to hit the road next Spring, everything will be ready and working properly. If you follow these basic steps, you'll have your RV ready for winter in no time. So, let's get that recreational vehicle or travel trailer winterized!
Check to see if your unit is equipped with a winterizing kit on the water pump. It's valve with a hose attached (usually clear) that is located on the intake side of the water pump. If your unit is not equipped with a winterizing kit, you can purchase one from an RV dealer or places like Walmart.
Your other option is to make your own winterizing kit:
Disconnect the hose from your water pump from the intake side. Take a 2-3 foot section of flexible hose (a dishwasher hook up line works well) and connect it to the water pump where you removed the intake hose.
Once you have your water pump ready to go, take a 5 gallon pail and pour approximately 2-3 gallons of antifreeze into the pail. Insert the hose from your winterizing kit into the pail. If your unit came with a winterizing kit, make sure the valve is in the correct position.
Open all the low points outside including the fresh water tank. Make sure your gray water tank is also completely empty.
Bypass your water heater and drain completely. Relieve pressure in the water heater by raising the lever on the relief valve. Take the plug out of the water heater to drain. Leave the plug out for at least a day . Same with the fresh water holding tank plug.
If your unit is equipped with a clothes washer, disconnect the water lines and drain the remaining water into a bucket. Keep the bucket handy, as you'll need it to catch the antifreeze later on.
There are two school of thoughts concerning the proper way to prepare the lines for the antifreeze. The first school of thought, is that compressed air should be pumped through the lines to clear them of all water prior to pumping the antifreeze through. The other method is to just use the antifreeze to force the water out. With the antifreeze only method, there will be some dilution of the antifreeze when it mixes with the water. Also, you'll use more antifreeze with this method (although not much more). Deciding on which method to use one should take into consideration the type and length of winters where the unit is stored, access to the right equipment (ie. compressor, fittings, etc.), whether the unit will be stored outside or in a garage and the size of the unit.
If you decide that blowing out all the water from the lines with air is the route for you, you'll need to take a few extras steps before you can commence running antifreeze through. First, get an air plug adapter for the city inlet. Hook up your air compressor and set it to no more than 35 psi of air. Open all the faucets and start you air compressor. Continue running air through the lines until all the water has been forced out.
Commence pumping antifreeze until you see it coming out of all the faucets, toilet and shower heads. Make sure that at least a cup of antifreeze is poured into the drains so that the water in the traps does not freeze up. Also, make sure to put a spoonful of antifreeze into your fresh water line on the outside to prevent your check valve from freezing.
Disconnect and remove the battery. Store it in a dry, warm place. Take the batteries out of smoke detectors, clocks, etc.
Pull propane alarm fuse (if so equipped).
Empty out the refrigerator, clean and leave the door open. Remove any and all food throughout the RV that could attract bugs and rodents. Clean the unit thoroughly.
Place 2 small open bags of charcoal in the unit. One towards the rear and one up front. The charcoal will absorb the moisture during storage and keep that musty smell to a minimum.
Pressurize tires to the maximum allowed and cover them.
Make sure tanks, heaters, pumps, and lights are off.
Close all windows and roof vent, and lock all doors.
You should now have your recreational vehicle winterized and ready for the cold months ahead and at the same time, make your job of preparing your RV for next season, a whole lot easier.

i bought a check valve at petco, i want to return it. but i dont have the packet it came with?
it's been 14 days since i bought it, iwant to replace it with plastic T-valves. will petco let me return my current check valve without the packaging it came with?
You probably can't return it if you've opened the package. A check valve only costs about two bucks, so it's not like you've lost a lot of money.
