Climbing Tree

These days, the popularity of many extreme sports has actually resulted in them not being so extreme. This is definitely not the case when it comes to rock climbing.

Life is a beautiful thing. If you want to get out into the great outdoors, there are so many options available, it isn't even funny. You can go hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking and so on. Given all these options, why try rock climbing. There are more than a few good reasons.

Getting in Shape - One of the reasons many people starting getting into the great outdoors is to get some physical activity. If this is your goal, rock climbing is a perfect choice. Climbing works the arms, shoulders, trunk and legs of the body. Oh, man does it work them. No matter what style of climbing you try, you are looking at a high calorie workout. The first couple times, your arms and legs will be noodle city afterwards. As you get used to it, you will quickly find you are losing weight and gaining a lot of definition in your body.

Trying Something Unique - There are a lot of rock climbers around, but not so many that you bump into them much unless you are actually climbing. This makes the sport a bit of an inclusive one. When you do meet other climbers, it is like being in a social club - one that non-climbers can't begin to understand. There is an entire underground for climbers and it is a great way to meet new friends with similar insane interests.

Views - It may sound stupid to say, but getting great views is an inherent side of rock climbing. You might be thinking, "So what?" Well, these aren't just any views. You have to experience them to understand, but it will give you an entirely new view of the world, Mother Nature and your life. To say they are jaw dropping is a mild understatement.

Inexpensive - Finally, rock climbing is a fairly inexpensive sport. Yes, the gear can run you some bucks, but the cost is nominal compared to most other sports. Once you have your basic gear, it lasts for a good bit of time. You will need to replace shoes every so often, but it is really a minor expense compared to other sports. That being said, the sport can get expensive when you start thinking about flying off to exotic locations to climb some beast of a cliff!

Why try rock climbing? It is difficult to put into words. When you complete your first climb, you will know why. Get out there and try it!

Climbing Opportunities During Childhood

A child will come across many opportunities to enjoy climbing and parents will not approve of most of them. If the child grows up on a farm, it is quite possible that the child will be seen climbing trees at the age of five. The height of the tree will not be important to the child but to a parent, the tree might seem like a injury waiting to happen. When there are small children in the home, it is only natural for a parent to keep a watchful eye out for them whether they are inside the home or outside.

Some parents have to take a wait and see attitude and let the child test his climbing abilities without interruption because interruptions are what cause the child to fall without warning. No parent wants to see a child get hurt, but they must also realize that the child must use their own methods to test their abilities as they grow. Climbing is one way that children use to explore new things and learn about nature and the world around them.

It's only natural for the parent to accept a child's admission to climbing a rock wall when they are an adult because by that time, the parent will have become fully accustomed to the fact that the child likes to do it. On any given day of their childhood, the parent could expect to find the child climbing the water tower or climbing out a bedroom window to sit on the roof for a while. By the time the child is in their teens, they have perfected the art of climbing anything on the farm.

Some children will become interested in climbing after they see a circus for the first time. The high flight acrobats on the flying trapeze will capture their attention and by the end of the week, boys will create their own circus in the woods behind the house and eventually invite family members to see their first performance. Parents might have to suck in a quick breath when they realize their child climbed a tree and is now swinging without a safety net.

A child might borrow a belt from their Father to use as a safety device for some climbing that will be shared with the boy next door. Some evenings, the Mother might pass by the bedroom and find that their child has climbed out the window and established a life line between one house and another. The child will feel quite confident about climbing a trellis that is growing on the side of the house too.

Even children that live in large cities have the opportunity to climb at an early age. It is not uncommon for children to exit buildings by climbing out the window and lowering steps that will take the climber directly to the street. They will see window washers on high-rise buildings and make a mental note that they are wearing safety equipment and standing on boards that allow very little space for their feet.

Is it better to get a real or artificial tree with a climbing kitty?

In the past, we've always had an artificial tree, and my cat insists on climbing it and sitting up at the top. She finally broke the tip last year when it leaned too far over.

We manage to chase her down because we don't want her knocking down the decorations, but can't do a thing at night.

We wanted to get a real tree this Christmas, but we're afraid she might get hurt by or even eat the needles...

Any advice out there?
Thanks.

I've had better luck with a real tree, my kitties would always chew and try to eat the fake tree which is bad for their system. I have a real tree this year, and they leave the tree alone but drink the water from the stand. I also have to keep the ornaments 4" off the ground cause they play with them.
