For one, make sure you pick up EVERYTHING. Lots of players just ignore monster drops because it fills up their inventories. This causes all of these drops to clump up together in popular leveling spots, making it easy picking for newbies and anyone else looking for some quick cash. When you fight monsters, make sure you pick up what they drop at all times, selling the items at shops when you inventory fills up.
Of course, just picking up drops won't help enough. You need to use the free market as well, selling certain things you buy. One of the best things to start off with is quest maple story items, because everyone does quests and lots of people want to buy items instead of killing monsters for them. This is a no-brainer: Sell quest maple story items at the free market, and you'll be well on your way to meso-millionairedom.
Another easy method is to do quests. Not only does this help to gather quest items to sell later on, but it also gives you experience points, items, and mesos for each quest completed. If you complete quests, it's like killing two birds with one stone. Not only that, but if the quest requires you to kill monsters, you'll gain more experience from that, plus the experience and mesos for completing the quest and selling drops gained from killing monsters. It's that simple.

Promotion before BCT?
I'm currently an E-1 and in DEP. The commander told my platoon that the time spent in DEP also counts toward TIS and TIG. In that case, on May 7, I would automatically be promoted to E-2 (please correct me if I'm wrong).
Here's my question: After May 7, if I complete the rest of the pre-BCT task list (all I have left is passing the APFT), do I also then get promoted to E-3? Or does the pre-BCT task list only count for getting promoted from E-1 to E-2?
The pre-BCT list is for E1 to E2. The only ways I know of to get to E3 prior to shipping would be by recruiting someone else to join, or with the required number of college credits.
