One of the best ways to lose body fat is by cutting calories. Would you support an indepth look into all government departments to see what fat can be cut?
I'm talking about having redundant departments working on the same project, three people doing a job two can do more than ably, overpriced consumables and contracts, etc. There is no reason we need to pay 10x the actual cost for pens and toilets. How much do you think we can save by having a crew of people go through and actually cut the fat? Major corporations do it to streamline their bottom line, why not the biggest money waster of all, the Federal government? (I realize it will cost to have people doing it, but the long term savings should more than cover that expense.)

A good model might be the base closing commission about a decade or so ago. A blue-ribbon panel presented a list of military bases to be closed, and I believe the Congress just voted up or down on the whole list, rather than second-guessing every single closing. In other words, the commission provided cover to Congress.
