Here are some more information for Darkening Solar:

Patio doors present appropriate access with added advantages over standard entry doors. These doors are entirely glazed to expand the view and pouring the interior with natural light. As old-style patio doors were notorious for heat loss and poor security, modern doors offer significant improvements. The frames and glazing are more energy-efficient, incorporate multi-point locking mechanisms for enhanced security, and sophisticated flashing packages to prevent leakage. The basic types of patio doors are sliding and hinged, offering distinct feature sets. Sliding patio doors are best for maximizing views and admitting daylight. They contain two or more individual panels; at least one is able to slide back and forth on concealed rollers. Sliding panels can be united with fixed panels to make dramatically wide expanses of glazing. Panels will slide parallel to the wall so they don't obstruct furniture placement or walking areas outdoors or in indoors.
Whereas hinged patio doors operate in much the same way as standard entry doors, but they are completely glazed and frequently hang in pairs. In one pattern, the doors are center hung and open much as butterfly wings. On the other hand French doors are hinged at the side jambs that the door panels meet when it is closed. The latching mechanism is enclosed in an astragal that is mounted to one of the doors. When these doors are open, the whole area between the hinges is apparent. Choosing a patio door comes down to a subject of aesthetics versus energy-efficiency. Swinging doors can be weather-stripped more efficiently than a sliding door, but individual panels are narrow and more visually obstructive. Sliding doors are more space efficient and lend itself to larger openings, but the huge expanse of glass is complicated in regard to heat loss and also solar heat gain.
The two major elements of a patio door are the border and the glazing, and depending on which part of the country the door will be used, either one of these things may be the deciding factor. The metal-frame doors are characteristically less luxurious and less energy-efficient than the fiberglass or wood doors, but they are offering the advantage of a less obtrusive casing. The main disadvantage of a wooden frame is the amount of maintenance that it requires. Clad goods try to offer the best of both the worlds, and have the energy-efficiency of a wood casing with low-maintenance of vinyl or aluminum cladding. Taking the case of clad wood patio doors, manufacturers offer a selection of wood for the core surfaces of the frame, normally a veneer. Try to choose wood such as pine if the inner surface will be painted. Other woods, such as Mahogany, Douglas fir, alder and maple are more suitable for stained or apparent finishes. The glazing of a patio doors have a considerable impact on its energy efficiency and its cost. These doors, particularly the sliding models, offer wide expanses of glazing to arrest views and admit daylight, but that same expanse is a major source of heat gain in the summer and also heat loss in the winter. Manufacturers are offering a number of glazing options to lessen heat loss and heat gain.

Solar Outdoor Lighting Tips And Ideas
Of all of the kinds of lighting that you can install around your home, solar outdoor lighting systems are the easiest and safest of all to install. This article will help you learn more about solar lighting and help answer some questions that you may have as well.
The really good news is that there is absolutely no wiring at all in solar outdoor lighting. You shouldn't get solar lighting confused with low voltage outdoor lighting instead. Low voltage lighting still has to be plugged into a power outlet in order to function, even though the voltage level is very low and relatively safe. But solar lighting is powered entirely by sunlight.
That means that each light contains a specifically designed solar collection panel that gathers energy during the day, stores it up in rechargeable batteries, and then uses that energy to power the lights at night.
Not only are solar lighting fixtures extremely environmentally friendly, but they're also inexpensive to buy, and cost absolutely nothing to run.
Some of the places that you can install solar lighting fixtures are on entrances to your driveway to help illuminate it at night, at darkened areas of your walkway or steps, as decoration for your patio, wood deck, or landscaping, and perhaps to bring attention to a particular architectural feature of your home at night. Whatever function you choose, one of the big advantages to using this kind of outdoor lighting is that you don't have to run cables or wiring of any kind. All you have to do is just install the light itself by pushing it into the ground in the location you desire. You just have to make sure that each light will be able to get a good amount of sunlight each day in order to function properly at night.
Amazingly, most solar lights are able to last a very long time on the light they receive from the sun each day. In fact, many are able to last up to 15 hours on a fully charged set of batteries.
One thing you should know about solar lighting is that the light that is emitted is not as bright as other forms of outdoor landscape lighting. Whether or not you consider this a disadvantage will probably depend on your individual taste. Many people consider that the soft, more subtle light that these fixtures put out actually help set the mood better than brighter lighting anyway.
As far as maintenance is concerned, there really isn't much. Basically, if a light stops functioning there's not much to do with it other than just throw it away and replace it. If however, it only needs to have the batteries replaced they are usually readily available at most home improvement stores.
So is you can see, a solar outdoor lighting system is quick and easy to install, adds character and mood to your home at night, is inexpensive to buy, easy to maintain, and cost nothing to run.

New moon phase question?
the shadow of the moon faces us during a new moon.
but why can't we see the shadow?
I mean for example, pretend a coin is the moon.
'cover' yourself from the sky, or the sun, using the coin. you can see the shadowed part of the coin as a darkened circle.
But during a new moon, the shadowed part of the moon is invisible. and the 'darkened circle' only appears during a solar eclipse.
why can't we see the shadow of the moon? shadows are always black, right? lol
btw, the solar eclipse is tomorrow..partial only though. =)
if the moon would not stand so close to the sun, yes we would see the dark side. But the 'new moon' is always going together with the extremely bright sun on the sky, so any object too close to the sun is just hardly visible to us
