What would be the best filtration system for my fish only salt water tank?
I am starting a 100 gallon fish only saltwater tank and working to find a filteration system for it. I plain to have live sand 50%live/50% non live play sand. I was thinking of using a tidepool 2 filter and a tidepool overflow skimmer. Would this be plenty of filteration for a 100 gallon, or do i need more. If you recomend another filter let me know. I do plain on haveing anenomies with my clown fish that is all that is not fish.
NO UNDERGRAVEL, the anenomes have special light requirements, on a 100g metal haidles are your only real option, dont worry clowns dont need them. it should be fine filter wise, jsut be sure to use plent of live rock with it. a quiet one 1200 should do. you might want to use the 2000 if its a tall tank, there are charts for head loss at certin heights, i cannot seem to find it but a search or reefcentral.com should have advice, but the 1200 should be fine. i recommend the coralife super skimmmer, they have a 125g model use that one. CPR makes a wet/dry for a 200g if you want more bang filtration wise, but the tidepool has a better overflow, the CPR i would recoomed the tank be drilled for bulkhead fittings, a good aquarium shop can assist you with that. the tidepool should be fine with a good skimmer though. you will want atleast 10x tank flow from the filter and powerheads, err on the side of more water flow. 4 model 900 maxijets should give you enough with the quiet one 1200 pump. as for lighting a good power compact fixture is better, you get better coralline aglae with it, the pretty pink and purple coloring to the rocks.
you could also look at a refigium, there are alot of DIY plans and ready to go systems availble, as for the algae to use in them i would use red gracilaria, tangs and angels love it, nothing like cleaning and feeding with the same thing.
