Edvotek 255 Purification, Size Determination of Blue and Green Fluorescent Proteins List Price: $79.00 Sale Price: $79.00 |
|
When bacteria are used to make medicinally useful proteins by transformation, the protein of interest must be separated from all of the other cellular proteins. In this experiment, the unique fluorescent properties of GFP and BFP will be used as an assay during their purification from an E. coli extract. The column fractions containing GFP or BFP will be identified by fluorescence and then purified. As an optional activity, purified protein fractions can be separated by SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) to estimate the purity and size of the GFP and BFP proteins. Kit includes: instructions, columns and matrix, GFP and BFP extracts, buffer, protein gel reagents for optional activity. All you need: waterbath, long wave UV lamp, ring stand and clamps, automatic micropipet, vertical gel electrophoresis apparatus, power supply, polyacrylamide gels (12 percent). |

Here are some more information for Fluorescent Blue:

A fish aquarium light compensates for the lack of direct sunlight suffered by tanks kept away from light source. You need not be a limnologist to provide the right light settings for the fish. A basic understanding of light types and the recommended hours of light exposure for fish types is enough.
The lighting needs vary between freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The timing of exposure also varies between fish only tanks, reef tanks, and live plant tanks. Too much radiance can induce the growth of algae, while appropriate exposure maintains the balance and growth of algae.
Too much luminosity can affect the health of the fishes. It stresses them, decreases their activity, and overall growth. Use a light timer to ensure appropriate timing, thereby preventing too much radiance to ensure pet health and growth.
Any variety of light used to illuminate the aquarium is an aquarium light. However, not all have the right spectral range of energy that is important for the health of the fish. The choice of the spectra and watts should be differed for fish types. Most of the bulb types given below are available in exclusive variants meant for fish only, reef only, and live plant tanks individually. They are also available in varied watt ranges.
There are different types of aquarium lights they are:
- Standard fluorescent bulbs; best suited for those tanks that require low intensity lightening. These bulbs are available in different brands. The recommended depth of the tank and the tank volume differ between brands. It is ideal for species that need lesser intensity lighting.
- Freshwater plant bulbs; exclusively for freshwater fish tanks with live plants. This is to ensure fitness and health of live plants. Plants require a lot of exposure to daylight for good health. This enables a reasonable nitrogen cycle, ideally the main reason for having live plants in tanks.
- Actinic fluorescent bulbs; these produce the blue spectrum. This is ideal for those fish species that do not like bright luminosity, used mainly as supplement to daylight.
- Metal halide bulbs; the most intense illumination for an aquarium. This is best suited for reef tanks that require the radiance to be deep penetrating to enable overall reach. This is ideal for very deep tanks and for those fish species that require very intense glow.
- Compact fluorescent bulbs; ideal for small sized aquariums. These last longer and they consume less energy. The lighting thus provides good intensity.
- High output and very high output fluorescent bulbs; these produce brightness that is more powerful than the normal intensity bulbs. This is ideal for freshwater tanks that are deep with lots of live plants.
- Incandescent bulbs; these produce a lot of heat with a narrow range of spectrum. Therefore, not used in normal aquarium sizes. However, it is ideal for reptile freshwater pets.
When you purchase a light for your aquarium ensure that you have the appropriate fixtures. Consider your fish species, your tank volume and the various other factors so you can choose the most suited fish aquarium light for your aquarium.

From Fluorescent to High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide, Grow Lights Help You Flex Your Flower Power
If growing plants indoors is something that interests you, then you'll most likely need grow lights to help accomplish the job. A grow light provides the special lighting and light spectrum that plants need to grow and thrive, and there are two types of lights that accomplish this: high intensity discharge lights, and fluorescent lights. High intensity discharge grow lights come in two varieties -- the metal halide grow light (often referred to as MH), and the high pressure sodium grow light (often referred to as HPS). The metal halide light is designed to nurture plants during their growing cycle. The growing cycle applies to pants that are non-fruiting and/or non-blooming.
The high pressure sodium lights are designed for those plants that are in the fruiting or blooming processes. The HPS grow lights come enhanced with the blue spectrum (this is used for vegetative growth) or the red spectrum (this is used for the flowering growth). The nice thing about these types of grow lights is that they can be used throughout the entire growing, fruiting and blooming process for most plants. Fluorescent grow lights do not emit as much light as the other types of grow lights that are available on the market, and so they are not intended to be used during the plant cycle, since the lack of a bright light will yield only small growth results. Instead, fluorescent grow lights should have its softer and gentler light used to help seedlings and cuttings begin to generate growth. Fluorescent lighting is best used to help nurture young plants and blooms.
No matter what type of grow light systems you have, it will use some kind of ballast system which enables the bulb or tube to generate enough energy to strike and give off light. Typically, metal halide grow lights and HPS grow lights run from remote ballasts. A remote ballast is a special configuration in which external boxes contain the electronics and wiring needed to pre-heat the lamp, and then keep it running. Why should you use grow lights? Well, look at a plant as if it is a factory that manufactures goods from raw materials and products. Factors need energy to run, and so do plans. The energy source that enables them to grow comes from grow lights (hence the name). Usually, it is natural sunlight that is used to feed plants with the energy they need, but grow lights can be a reliable and suitable substitution.

Can I transform a blue image to a red image using a fluorescent transparent material?
I have a blue image or blue light beams (450nm wavelenght) from a source and i would like to reduce the color frecuency to red (650nm) with a fluorescent material. I know that the fluorescent materials have the property to absorb photons in some wavelenght and emit photons in another lower wavelength.
I'm fairly certain that the direction that the light is emitted is not connected to the direction that the light is absorbed.
Without that directional information, it would be pretty tough to form an image. So you'd have to keep the directional information in some other way.
Maybe there is a clever way around that problem. I'm just speculating here, but a bundle of fiber optics with fluorescent material embedded in it might do the trick.
There are some cool optics involved in bundles of fiber optics. In fact there is a natural mineral called ulexite that has this property.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulexite
Fused fiber optics are made with tapers for some sort of imaging purpose
http://www.us.schott.com/fiberoptics/english/products/healthcare/imagingfiberoptics/fusedcomponents/tapers.html?PHPSESSID=ab26a662b9
And I've read that there are some applications of fluorescent materials in fiber optics.
http://www.nanoptics.com/questions.htm
I don't know if anyone has combined those two ideas and I don't know if it would even work.
I would be very interested to find out.
