Here are some more information for Fume Extractor:

The 2009 AWS Welding Show in Chicago had numerous displays of welding fume extractors.
But the one fume extractor that stood out as completely unique was the FRED Series fume extractor by Diversitech.
FRED stands for:
- Filtration
- Reusable Filters
- Energy Savings
- Dramatically reduced pollution
What made this fume extraction unit so unique was a sensor that allowed the collector arm to follow the arc wherever it went. The arm was motorized with controllers like stepper motors or servos controlling its movement.
Lets think about that for a second. That's a huge benefit. Instead of having to stop and reposition the extractor arm every foot or so, a welder could weld long sections and still have the smoke being removed from his breathing zone.
No time would be lost by the welder stopping to move the arm. Another benefit would be less stops and starts on a long weld due to not having to stop to move the arm.
Why the increased interest in welding fume filter units? simple. OSHA regulations have tightened up on exposure to certain types of fumes...namely hexavalent chromium, and employers are concerned about complying with the new and more stringent exposure limits.
Other features of the FRED series of fume extractors are:
- self cleaning and long lasting filters
- external hardware on the snorkel arms to improve airflow and to allow for easy access and maintenance on the hardware.
I would have really appreciated using a welding fume filter back in the day when I was burning 50 lbs of stick rod a day.

Fume Extraction
Recent studies in the UK have shown that a good number of engineering and wood work industries contribute to the industrial pollution rate through the emission of poisonous gases and fumes. A good percentage of it is left untreated which has an adverse effect both on the environment and the health of the employees working in these industrial sectors. For this reason, many companies in the UK often have to bear the brunt of legal hassles. Fume extraction systems are the best possible solutions to keep industries out of the harm’s way.
The process of fume extraction generally refers to cleansing, removing and treating the hazardous dust and fumes emitted from machines. Fume extraction systems are generally put up at the source to ensure maximum extraction. Since the requirement varies with the type of machine, fume extraction companies in the UK have bought out a number of fume extraction systems suiting different industrial needs.
On one hand while Thermal Spraying Dust Extraction units are good for cold spray, High Vacuum Fume extraction system works great for trapping poisonous fumes from printing and chemical industries. The carbon filtration units along with fans and fume extraction arms are highly efficient in extracting fumes in no time. Some of the companies also deal in fume extraction systems capable of treating harmful fumes from explosive elements.
Apart from proving beneficial to employees, fume extraction systems also ensure a longer life for the machineries. Accumulated dust and fume on machineries often leads do their untimely breakdown. This results in huge maintenance bills which can easily be avoided just by installing high tech modern fume extraction systems.
Getting a fume extraction system installed is no longer an issue as most of the companies manufacturing dust and fume extracting systems in the UK also take charge of the installation procedure. The experienced professionals not only provide guidance in choosing the perfect extraction equipment for their client, but also carry out periodic checks of the system to ensure its smooth functioning.
Therefore, investing in fume extraction equipment is a better choice than to make compromises with the health of the employees. Moreover, companies choosing to install such systems on their premises are able to keep up the goodwill in the market and at the same time complying with the important industrial policies.
