Among all of the costs that impact both electric and gas bills alike your hot water heaters are right at the top of a list of the most costly. Whether you have a large household that uses large volumes of hot water for laundry, bathing and cleaning or a business such as restaurants which go through thousands of gallons of hot water every month these costs can be extreme. With energy costs at a premium these days we are all seeking relief in every way possible to greatly reduce or eliminate these high costs in a way that will give us a quick return on investment and there is nothing quite like the solar thermal hot water system that answers both of these calls. The technologies from which these systems originally emerged came out during the 1970s during the last energy crisis when oil prices spiked and caused the endless lines at gas pumps and large increases to gas and electric costs.

Today the technologies these systems employ have advanced greatly and offer savings of up to 47% regardless if you live in mild climates that rarely see temperatures that drop to freezing or if you happen to live in a northern tiered state where these freezing temperatures are a way of life every year. Southern states and climates are able to utilize water jacketed systems in heating their hot water tanks during the daylight hours and once the sun sets each night this water is pumped to an interior holding tank that prevents freezing in the event temperatures do drop enough for this to be a concern. Northern states and climates use glycol jacketed closed loop systems because glycol does not freeze yet it still retains and transfers the heat it absorbs in the solar collectors very quickly to hot water tanks. In the enclosed loop of these solar thermal hot water systems the suns energy continually heats either the water or glycol that heats that water in your hot water tank and they do so while requiring very little sunlight to be effective.

These systems come in a wide variety of configurations for both commercial and residential use depending on what your hot water volume demand is and many commercial model manufacturers have designed some very massive systems that can require ground mounting only because of their weight. Residential needs however do not require such large systems so it is very easy to install one or two solar collector panels while still being able to produce very large volumes of hot water. Large households would want to utilize dual tank systems and whether you are using a single or dual tank configuration both still retain their electric or gas heating circuits but are only used when the solar thermal system cannot keep up with present demand. System costs vary depending on the type and whether they require water or water diluted glycol as their thermal medium but by and large you can anticipate a return on investment of 6 to 11 years as well as the increased value to the property these systems were installed on.

Be Emergency Ready 24/7

A storm is expected to hit your place. Electricity may go out and your neighbors are all freaked out. What do you need to do? Calm down and do not panic because you still have all the time to get everything covered.

In times when a certain calamity is about to hit your place, the best thing to do is to be prepared. Usually, after we think we have gotten prepared the best we know how we then find out that we missed out on those small things which become important by their omission. Read on and be reminded of the simple yet very useful and important facts to remember for emergency preparedness.

Flashlights
Without the electricity, everything will be dark, and thus your eyes will be of minimal help alone. How will you safely see your way around your home in the dark? How will you cook (assuming you have a gas stove) if you can not even see what you are doing? Since we use our eyes in almost all activities that we do, it is best to have flashlights to aid us.

Also, make sure that you check that your flashlight bulbs are in good condition. You would not want to depend on a broken flashlight, right? You should also take time to stock extra batteries in case the power will be out for several days.

Water
They say a man can live with no food but not without water; and this is an undeniable fact. It is advisable that you should stock gallons of drinking water for you and your family. This is because the water supply will surely be affected by the calamity. When you do this, you can also make sure that the water that you will be drinking is safe.
If there are still storage spaces left, a few gallons of water which will be used for activities such as bathing, washing the dishes and clothing, and brushing the teeth would be a good help too. Remember, a calamity is already enough. Acquiring diseases because of it is too much. You must do all the things you can to clean yourself and kill those germs.

Canned goods
It is impractical to cook in the middle of a calamity. Thus, you must take time before a disaster to gather canned goods since they are easy to open and eat. Be certain to have a non-powered can opener for when the power is out.

Jackets and other appropriate garments
Whether the weather is cold or not, it is best to have adequate clothing and blankets for the situation. This is one way to save you from unexpected injuries, sunburn or exposure. It may not be a one hundred percent assurance of being safe, but at least the damage will be lessened and you will be more comfortable.

These things may be very simple, but most of the time, these are also the things that are neglected. When you try to plan to be without your accustomed comforts, try to be prepared for at least a seventy-two hour period without visiting a store. Longer is better if you do not want to be dependent on government agencies for help in the aftermath of a disaster. When you pair these things up with prayers and faith in the Lord, with no doubt, you will ready for any emergency.

Is it possible to survive in the wilderness with these things for about 5 years?

1 heavy duty big backpack
3 hunting knife
2 knife/ax sharpeners
2 ax's
1 rifle
1 gun
5000 bullets
3 different sleeping bags for different temperatures
3 flints with steel

1000 matches in a small package
100 feet of rope
10' x 10' tarp
2 1 gallon bottles
2 small fishing rods
3000 yards of fishing line
30 hooks
30 trebles
10 lures
30 day food and water supply to get you started
1 off road bike
4 shirts
3 pants
2 shorts
2 sweaters
2 fleece jackets
4 socks
2 pairs of shoes
2 spears
2 medicine kits with a good supply of medecine for each medicine kit
1 small tent
2000 dollars in cash in case of an emergency

So is it possible to survive in the wilderness with these things for about 5 years?

Sure is- in fact you could live a lot longer than that! if the situation were to arise, carrying items like lighters by bic and matches not covered in wax, would become useless if exposed to moisture.

Those lighters which use pressurized butane gas and burn at 800C would be better suited but once gain you have to fill them up again. more clothing would be more important here as it will and does get damaged in the wild. Wearing layers is a better option as they can be added and removed.

Also the bike wont be of much use in the areas of heavy foliage, more important than all that listed is training on how to survive with very little, you need items which are waterproof and wont just break or run out of fuel. Items like a "firesteel" would work well as they are waterproof and strike easily.
