Ronald "Ron" Headley is better known as the son of the legendary West Indian, George Headley, and father of England fast bowler, Dean Headley. Although Ron played two Tests and one ODI for the West Indies between July and September 1973, he did not leave a mark on international cricket as either his father or his son.

Born on June 29, 1939 in Kingston Jamaica, Ron was always in the shadow of his father, who was also known as the "Black Bradman." Ron made his First Class debut in 1958-as a 19 year old-for Worcestershire in the English County Championship. Surprisingly, Headley only played 2 full seasons for his country of birth, in the 1965/66 season and 1973/74 season, according to Cricinfo's Martin Williamson.

Largely because he played most of his First Class cricket for Derbyshire and Worcestershire in the English County, Headley made a rather belated debut for the West Indies. He was already 34 years old when he first played Test cricket-lining up against England for the first of only two Tests in his international career. In his first innings, he made a painstaking eight runs from 64 balls.

In the West Indies' second innings of that game, he took all of 137 balls to score 42 runs. His second Test was a failure by comparison, as Headley scored 12 runs. What was remarkable about Ron's four Test innings was that he occupied the crease for 268 balls. However, his overall effort with the bat yielded only 62 runs at an average of 15.50.

Ronald Headley's only one-day international was against England at Kennington Oval in London on September 7, 1973. That match was his first and last, and was the last Test of fellow Jamaican, Maurice Foster. In that match, Headley scored a slow 19 off 41 balls.

Ron Headley played 423 First Class matches for Jamaica, Derbyshire, Worcestershire and West Indies. He scored and 21,695 runs at a decent average of 31.12. From 758 innings, he hit 117 half-centuries and 32 centuries, with a top score of 187. Headley also played 162 one-day games, and scored 4788 runs at an average of 32.35, with a top score of 132. While Ron Headley was not quite the batsman that George was, he continued the Headley legacy when he represented the West Indies. That ensured that three generations of Headleys played Test cricket, since Ron's son, Dean Headley, played 15 Tests for England.
