To make a hydrogen generator you need some basic materials that will cost you around $100 at a local hardware store or Walmart. The question of "can you improve your gas mileage using water as fuel?" has been answered many times. You can improve your gas mileage up to 61% using HHO converstion (hydrogen). The only difficult part is building the HHO Generator.

To make a hydrogen generator you will need these materials:

1. Glass Jar - You can buy it from any hardware store for around 90 cents a piece. Although these jars seem fragile, they are manufactured from a highly durable glass that might just outlive the whole system.

2. Jar lid - If you use the original metal lid that comes with the jar, you will have to isolate at least one of the electrode terminals. It's recommended to use plastic lids, which come very cheap (about 60 cents - sold in packs of eight).

3. Plexiglas - Two pieces will do the trick. The dimensions are: 2.15''x5.75''x ¼''

4. Electrode Wire - you will need about 60''. If grade 316L electrode wire is essential for the anode (the plus volt wire), feel free to use grade 302 or grade 304 for the cathode (the minus volt wire). If you plan to use both in the same device, it is essential to make note which is which. Also, you must remember to place a red wing nut on the bolt connected to the 316L wire, and a black wing nut on the 302/304 wire. Inside the device are used electrodes which are made from stainless steel wire, glued and spiraled to a core (made of Plexiglas). Although the aluminum or copper wires are great conductors, you must not use them because they will be destroyed during the process of electrolysis.

5. Bolts - Get 2 pieces of ¼''x7/8''

6. Washer - You will need two types of washers. First you'll need two pieces of ¼'' split washers and then two ¼'' flat washers.

7. Nut - 2 or 4 ¼'' nuts will be enough to secure the bottom part of each elbow under the lid.

8. Wing nut Coarse - Buy 2 pieces of ¼''

9. Barb Coupling - You can find them at Home Depot (or any other store that has a gardening department). It is good as long as it can connect two pipes or tubing of ¼'' each. You must purchase two pieces. 20

10. Elbow Fitting - These are ¼'' barb tubing adapters, used to connect pipes together. They can be found in almost any aquarium supply store.

11. Adjustable Dripper - They can be found at the irrigation department of stores like Home Depot, paired in small bags. You need one ¼'' "Barb"

12. Check Valve - You need only one of these. They are one-way air activated valves, generally used for aquariums. They cost (on average) 3$ each.

13. Clear Vinyl Tubing - 6'' ¼'' x 0.170'' ID

14. Vacuum Hose - You can use the vinyl or rubber type. They are both very durable and can be found in aquarium supplies stores. Buy 12''of VAC HOSE ¼ 7/32 ID.

15. Ribbed Anchor - You need one piece with the following dimensions: 4/6 x 7/8. Practically, they can be found at any electrical store.

To make a hydrogen generator these are the most cost effective parts you will need. The actual assembly to make a hydrogen generator is little bit more complex. If you have basic mechanical skills you will be able to make a hydrogen generator easily enough. It is highly recommended that you use a well known construction guide to make a hydrogen generator because there are many little minor details that can go wrong making the hydrogen generator ineffective.

Don't Get It Wrong When Fitting An HHO Generator System

The simple fact is that most modern vehicles will have oxygen sensors fitted to let the vehicles computer know if the air/fuel mixture is too lean or too rich. Gas/petrol engines are made to operate at an air/fuel ratio of 14.7 to 1 and when this is introduced to the engine, a small amount of oxygen will be detected in the exhaust emissions by the oxygen sensor fitted in the exhaust system, this information is relayed to the vehicles computer. This means that if more oxygen is detected in the system, the vehicles computer thinks that there is not enough fuel in the mixture (too lean), so alters itself and lets more fuel in. The opposite happens when the computer detects less oxygen, the vehicles computer thinks there is too much fuel in the mix (too rich) so it reduces the fuel to the engine.

There is a big problem with this though, as soon as you add an additive or device to help the fuel burn more efficiently, the oxygen detected in the exhaust will rise due to the fuel being burned more efficiently, the main reasons for this is 1. Less fuel is being used to produce the same power, and 2. Less oxygen is being used to create carbon monoxide in the exhaust system.
The main point here is that there will be more oxygen present in the exhaust system as fuel efficiency is gained.

Because of the fuel efficiency achieved and more oxygen being detected in the exhaust system, the vehicles computer thinks that it has not enough fuel in the mixture (too lean), so it incorrectly adds more fuel to the mixture. To get over this you will have to fit an EFIE (Electronic Fuel Injection Enhancer)  to the vehicle. The EFIE solves this by adjusting the oxygen sensor's signal to the computer, so the computer is happy with the readings it's getting and then makes the correct adjustments for the various conditions of the engine.

One thing to remember about an EFIE is that it is not a fuel efficiency device on it's own. If all you was to do was add an EFIE to your car, with no other fuel efficiency system, you might gain a few mpg, but you also might not, also you will lose power due to reducing the amount of fuel in the  mixture of the vehicle. The reason is that you are fooling the car's computer and making it run out of spec, or differently than it was designed for. The EFIE was designed to make the car run according to spec after another fuel efficiency device has been installed.

Not fitting an EFIE device is the main reason why people say that HHO systems do not work. Using old out dated plans found on the Internet is not recommended for building and fitting your own HHO system, these plans are good for looking into the principles of how these systems work, but will not explain what is needed to fit one of these systems to your vehicle for optimal fuel efficiency. This is another reason why I would always recommend purchasing plans that have been tried and tested, and because they will have the latest information on the HHO system and EFIE device's.

HHO generator systems are the way forward.
