Here are some more information for Hobart Mig:

It is common for US based organizations to have product designed and built overseas to increase their domestic sales revenues. This is called 'Building for a Cost'. For an Organization to go down this road, it shows a Management rational that is 180 degrees opposed to building a product with High Quality, and Reliability. Some Manufacturers even try to justify their decisions by claiming that their low cost product has the 'Best Quality, for the Price'. You have to wonder whether they are listening to their own words! Reflecting the lower product quality is a shorter Warranty period (usually 1 year). If the product fails in the first year, the Manufacturer simply replaces the unit (so don't get too fond of your original machine, if a fault occurs).
Here's the deal - If the products Quality and Reliability is High, then the Warranty Period is lengthy, and vise versa. You get what you pay for!
OK - got it! Now, where do I stand into the second year of ownership for a Welder that has only a 1 year Warranty period? You will probably be left out in the cold, as the units have always been replaced when a fault occurred. Because of this, chances are that the Manufacturers don't stock all Spare parts for your Welder! Yes- really! If they did, this would mean storing extra stock, and this inevitably costs Warehouse dollars. Ultimately, this will be avoided- 'like the plaque'. So now, you have a product with limited Spare parts. Fortunately, the Manufacturers are normally obliged to Support their products for 10 years. However, due to the Welder being made Overseas (this is how it is built so cheaply - for a cost), the Spare Parts not stocked will have a long procurement time associated with them. This means an inconvenient downtime period for your Welder, and any jobs that you were trying to complete!
If you are concerned about this, and want to check it out for yourself, then audit the Manufacturer before you buy!
Here's a simple pre-purchase procedure for an Inverter based Welder:
1. Download a Service Manual from the Manufacturers Web Site. If they only have an Operators Manual, here is clue one relating to future Support from their Technical Support Group!
2. From the Service Manuals Parts list, look up the part numbers for the following Major components: Input Rectifier, IGBT's or MOSFET Switching components, Output Diodes, Main Board, and Case (Enclosure).
3. Call the Manufacturers Sales or Customer Care line (a 1-800 number). Ask them for price and availability of your five items. The only acceptable answers are: In stock (available now), and having a reasonable price associated with it.
4. For every item that meets this standard, multiply this number by 20. The total will give you an idea as to the percentage of Parts that are available at the time that you are looking to buy. For example, if they could only immediately supply two parts out of five then this represents a 40% parts availability for your Welder. This would be a poor indicator of future Parts Supply from this Manufacturer, so score one - the competition!
Now that you know where you stand with Parts availability, also consider that in the second year of ownership any repair activities on a low cost Welder will likely be so expensive that the only economic choice is to scrap the unit.
You need to be honest with yourself, and consider whether you would be happy in the long term with a Welder with a 1 year Warranty, as opposed to the standard 5-3-1 professional Warranty offered for other products.

Flux core wire feed .. "Body Work"?
Has anyone ever used a flux core wire feed on body work. We need to replace some panels on a s15 jimmy thats just a hunting and work truck. I have a hobart mig at work but the cones etc are all fubar and I can't find replacement parts for a Hobart Beta Mig ....
Thanks for any help.
Flux core wire is better used on heavier welding applications. The heat required for fluxed wire is greater and will impart much greater warpage to your body panels. One thing that will help you is to lay cold, wet rags close to your weld area to prevent the heat from migrating through your panels and limit the heat distorted areas. A MIG running .024 hard wire is a much better choice for your application.
