Dog bee stings can be quite common in summer and they are just as painful for your dog as they are for you!
If you've spend any time outside with your pet in warmer weather, you've probably noticed that he loves to snap at flying insects with his mouth. God only knows why dogs like to do this as the result is often a painful sting in a very sensitive area.

1. Try to bathe the area of the sting with a solution of warm (not too hot) water and bicarbonate of soda. A ratio of 1 tbsp bicarbonate to 2 pints of water is adequate and will not be harmful if ingested. Bathe every 10 minutes until it seems like the stinging has subsided.
2. You can also apply Ammoniated quinine directly to the area.
3. Most dogs take a bee sting in stride, but if yours is acting really agitated, you might try giving him some potassium bromide to calm him down.
4. If the dog will let you, you could try to remove the stinger with tweezers - if you can actually see where the stinger is.
5. Don't feel silly about taking your dog to the vet so that she can examine the sting. If she see's fit, she can give your dog a shot of anti-histamine that will relieve the swelling and itching as well as prevent any systemic disturbances.
Just like with kids, dog bee stings can be a normal part of the summer routine. But just because you see your dog snapping at bees does not mean that he will necessarily be stung. I had one dog that snapped at them all day long and seemingly never got stung once! However, if yours is stung, you now know what to do to ease his pain.

Some people like them because they carry nectar to their beehives and produce honey, which is their business or source of income, but some abhor just their presence. A honey bee that is away from the hive foraging for nectar or pollen will rarely sting, except when stepped on or roughly handled. Although it is widely believed that a worker honey bee can sting only once, this is a partial misconception: although the stinger is in fact barbed so that it lodges in the victim's skin, tearing loose from the bee's abdomen and leading to its death in minutes, this only happens if the victim is a mammal. The bee's stinger evolved originally for inter-bee combat between members of different hives, and the barbs evolved later as an anti-mammal defense: a barbed stinger can still penetrate the chitinous plates of another bee's exoskeleton and retract safely. The stinger's injection of apitoxin into the victim is accompanied by the release of alarm pheromones, a process which is accelerated if the bee is fatally injured. Release of alarm pheromones near a hive or swarm may attract other bees to the location, where they will likewise exhibit defensive behaviors until there is no longer a threat, typically because the victim has either fled or been killed. These pheromones do not dissipate or wash off quickly, and if their target enters water, bees will resume their attack as soon as it leaves the water. The larger drone bees do not have stingers. In worker bees, the stinger is a modified ovipositor. The queen bee’s smooth stinger is not for defense of the hive, but for dispatching rival queens, ideally before they can finish pupating. 5744 guy, why isn't it recommended to use stinger ammo in new rifles?
I know you warned against copper plated ammo (my guess is because it's harder than lead, is that right?), but why can't I use stingers in new guns (keep in mind I don't have the match chamber cautioned in the manual)?
Basically the CCI Stinger (and other hyper-velocity rounds) are loaded with powders to generate either higher pressures or maintain the pressures longer for higher muzzle velocities. Because the rounds are loaded "hotter" they generate more energy. They also are a bit harder on the mechanical workings of the gun. Since they put more energy into cycling the gun (mainly in extraction) its possible if the case sticks in the chamber you might get a head separation (basically the extractor tears the rim off the case and some of the case is left in the chamber jamming the gun). Those two things are the only reasons I can see why Ruger might recommend not using hyper-velocity rounds. Honestly unless you have a target chamber, shooting a hyper-velocity round in a semi-automatic .22 shouldn't be a problem.
