Belonging to the Hippopotamide Family, Hippopotamus is a large and bulky mammal that originally lives in marshy lakes and rivers of Africa. The word Hippopotamus is derived from the Greek word 'Hippopotamus amphibius,' meaning river horse. Hippos are the third largest land animal and the fourth largest mammal on the planet. Despite a heavy hairless body, weighing between one & a half to three tons, and stumpy legs, it still manages to run at 30 kilometers per hour.

A hippo is four and a half feet tall and has an enormous mouth that can open almost four feet wide and holds canines up to 28 inches in length. Hippos are semi-aquatic. They stay submerged in water through the day and graze on land only in the evenings. They primarily feed on plants & grasses. To keep itself protected, the Hippo secretes a thick red fluid that coats its body and acts as an anti- bacterial potion & sunscreen.

Things You Will Need

1. Pencil

2. Paper/ Canvas

3. Colors (optional)

4. Paint Brush (Optional)

5. Eraser

Following are simple & methodical steps to draw a Hippopotamus. We are considering a profile view. Outline:

i. Head: Draw a circle for the head.

ii. Body: An oblong will do good to represent the body. The left end of the oblong should intersect the top left corner of the head.

iii. Mouth: Draw a 'W' shaped line with curved edges at the bottom of the head. Extend the right ending line of the 'W' to define the hippopotamus' mouth.

iv. Eyes: At almost the center of head, draw a small, inverted 'V' shape, and two small parallel lines under it.

v. Nose: Above the mouth, draw a small semicircle with another small circle inside it.

vi. Ears: Above the eyes, on each side, draw an inverted 'C' shape.

vii. Legs: Draw two small circles at the front and back of the body. The circle should divide itself into half at the outline of the body. From each circle, extend short and diagonal lines to form its feet.

viii. Tail: Draw a short tail at the top left corner of the body.

Enhancements:

Once the basic outline is achieved, fair out the drawing by structuring the hippo and erasing the supporting lines.

i. Eyes: Draw two small almond shapes for eyes.

ii. Ears: Right behind the eye, draw a leaf shape for its ear.

iii. Nose: Draw a small dot for the hippopotamus' nostril.

iv. Mouth: Draw a line through the pointed end of the triangle we had made for the hippopotamus' head.

v. Thorns: Draw two short knobbed horns on the head.

vi. Limbs: Define the limbs and hoofs.

vii. Tail: Hippopotamus has a long muscular tail with a little tuft at the end.

Shading/Coloring: Magnify the aesthetic beauty of your Hippopotamus by coloring or shading it.

i. Neck: Draw a few irregular vertical lines around the neck of the hippo to depict skin folds.

ii. Eyes: The pupils of the hippo can be darkened. A few irregular lines around the eyes and near the jaw will provide an authentic finishing.

iii. Ears: The insides of the ears can be darkened.

iv. Limbs: Define the toes of the hippo and color them appropriately.

v. Body: Fill the body of the animal with grey color.

Home Remedies for Dark Circles Under the Eyes

You just woke up after attending a wild party the night before. The hangover is gone and so is the bad taste in your mouth after all the food and drinks you’ve consumed. Now you’re ready to face the world again as you get ready for the office.

But as you stare at the mirror, you’re confronted by a stranger! Somehow, there’s something different about you. Then from out of the blue, it suddenly hits you! You look terrible and it’s because of those dark circles under your eyes!

Dark circles below the eyes are no big deal. Everyone gets them from time to time. If you’re a party animal, chances are you’d get them more often since the condition is common in people who don’t have enough sleep, are constantly under stress or sleep in a position that allows fluid to collect in the lower eyelids. This causes the eyelids to swell creating the appearance of shadows below the eyes.

In most cases, the problem is simply cosmetic and not a serious health hazard. You can blame it on your parents for the condition may be inherited. However, as trivial as their causes are, dark circles shouldn’t be ignored for in some instances they may mean something else. If the problem persists or worsens, it’s wise to see a doctor.

“Dark circles under the eyes can be the result of allergies to airborne substances, such as pollen, dust, and pet dander, because people rub their itchy eyes. People with hay fever may notice them at the height of the season,” according to Cathy Wong of the American College of Nutrition.

“Blood vessels under the eyes can become dilated and engorged, which can contribute to dark circles. Excess dietary salt and smoking are common causes. Conditions that cause fluid retention (e.g. heart, thyroid, kidney, liver diseases) or medications that cause blood vessel dilation may be a factor. Your doctor should be aware of any symptoms you're experiencing,” she added.

To get rid of dark circles, here are some home remedies courtesy of Wong:

● Drink enough water.

● Wear sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 under the eyes to prevent skin weakening caused by sun damage.

● Get plenty of rest.

● Apply plain cool teabags over closed eyes. Don’t use herbal teabags because most aren't as effective.

● Apply cool cucumber slices over closed eyes for 15 minutes.

● Don’t consume too much dietary salt.

● Apply vitamin K cream. Although studies haven't looked at the use of topical vitamin K for dark circles under the eyes, preliminary studies have found that vitamin K may help with bruising.

● Take enough vitamin C to help strengthen blood vessel walls.

If nothing seems to work, try Eyevive, a revolutionary product that can diminish if not totally eliminate dark circles under the eyes as well as other eye problems like puffiness, fine lines, and wrinkles. Simply apply the product twice a day with the fingertip to the skin below and around the affected areas and you’ll get dramatic results in a couple of days. How do you solve equation on a line and circle simultaneously?

question is to find if coordinates of any points of intersection or tangential contact or if line fails to meet the curve.

y = 2x + 1
x^2 - 8x + y^2 - 8y + 22 = 0

I think you solve them simultaneously, but how do you do that?!

The easiest way to solve them simultaneously is by substituting the first one into the second, i.e.

x^2 - 8x + y^2 - 8y + 22 = x^2 - 8x + (2x+1)^2 - 8(2x+1) + 22 = 0

That then turns into a quadratic equation which you can solve for two values of x, which you then substitute into the first equation to get matching values for y (then you do a sanity check - should there be two solutions? yes, because that's what happens when you draw a line through a circle)

Crowd throngs Circle Line
A SOON-TO-BE operational stretch of the Circle Line opened its doors for several hours to the public on Sunday. More than 50,000 people turned up to take free train rides through the 11 new stations from Dhoby Ghaut to Bartley.
