Undoubtedly, TIG welding is one of the most difficult skills to learn. It requires excellent eye and hand coordination. Plus, you need good balance coupled with the ability to use both of your hands at the same time.
Professional TIG welders do have a secret that is rarely, if ever, mentioned outside of the industry. The technique is called "walking the cup". "Walking the cup" solves balance issues, keeps your hands steady, and produces a very uniform weld. This TIG welding technique uses the cup of the torch to lean on the weld joint. Once the cup is leaning on the weld joint the operator starts the arc. Then the torch handle is turned from side to side like a ratchet turning a bolt. What this does is create a forward momentum where the cup walks forward and side to side at the same time. Once the metal starts melting, the filler wire is either dipped or simply "walked over".
There are many benefits to using this "walking the cup" technique for anyone who TIG welds. The biggest benefit is a uniform pattern that produces a consistent weld penetration. Once a welder learns this technique, their welds are consistently the same. There is less room for slips and general hand shaking. Another benefit is arc length control. Arc length is a big issue when it comes to welding in general. Most weld defects that are caused by improper TIG welding technique are related to arc length. Once you have mastered "walking the cup", your arc length should be extremely short and consistent at all times. This helps to avoid under-cutting and gives the weld a flat profile. When keeping a short arc you also get a cooler temperature that keeps Tungsten from eroding and distortion of the joint is less likely.

The specific qualities of industrial pipe flanges
In industries like the petrochemical, gas and oil industries, it is important that the alloys used for the pipe flanges and other fittings meet specific requirements. Depending on their location, and the use to which they will be put, fittings must be strong, and resistant to corrosion, stress, impact, the effects of welding and extremes of pressure and temperature.
For example, stainless steel pipe flanges used for undersea pipelines must be resistant to the corrosive effects of salt water, and must not warp or buckle at extreme depths where temperatures are low and pressures high. Oil refineries need to be sure their pipe flanges are easily welded but desensitised to welding (i.e. that the chromium giving them their anti-corrosion abilities remains active when heat is applied), that they are resistant to high internal pressures, and that they will not perform poorly in extreme weather or when exposed to fire conditions.
All this means the alloys used for industrial pipe flanges have to be of very high specification. Stainless steel alloys are generally one of two types: ferritic and austenitic. Ferritic alloys have high strength but are hard to weld, and possess low resistance to corrosion (improved by high levels of chromium and added elements like titanium and molybdenum.)
Austenitic alloys have a different crystalline structure, which is stabilised with the addition of nickel. This gives them impressive anti-corrosion abilities and makes them easy to weld, but they have less strength than ferritic alloys.
For this reason, duplex alloys are often used, which combine both ferritic and austenitic traits. At Chemi Petro we have pipe flanges in a wide range of specialist alloys, including duplex and super duplex.

What is the best way to mend a leaky pipe under the bath (not plumber's mate) Can the pipe welded.
you don't need to pull the tub out! that was a dumb answer 1st guy. cut a hole in the ceiling under the tub where you think the leak is. cut a hole just big enough or go stud to stud. find where the leak is and cut pipe or drain line. replace cut piece. if you don't know how to solder then you will need to call a plumber and he will do the same as I have just suggested.
