Focused Ultrasound Forcefields & Plasma Weapons?
Just how powerful can a focused ultrasound beam be?
If you build a doorway and all around this door way you had tiny focused ultrasound speakers firing focused ultrasound beams with enough power could it block people or objects getting past?
Imagine you have ultrasound beams going left to right, right to left, top to bottom and bottom to top so you basically have at least 4 layers of multiple ultrasound beams all next door to eachother in the doorway.
Could they prevent passage?
On another note. How about an ultrasound weapon?
basically the weapon would not actually be the ultrasound. Around the nozzle of the weapon would be multiple ultrasound devices in a circle which would shoot beams at the target creating an ultrasound tube if you will.
Within this ultrasound tube a ball of plasma would be fired and the ultrasound tube would prevent the plasma from dissipating.
The problem with holding an entire person back is that you must supply a lot of force. Ultrasonic waves can compress air, or most likely even hurt people, but to supply enough force to hold a person back would require enough force to overwhelm most devices. It would more likely be a deterrent, as the pain from the focused ultrasound beams would be the primary factor.
For the second part, I think you've been watching too much cartoons. Unless the ultrasonic wave generators were entirely around the plasma as it flew, which could compress the plasma, it would spread out a lot. While air is a good insulator, especially for something so hot, the ultrasonic generators mounted on the launcher would only slow (at best) the dissipation of the plasma. Worse, the plasma would spread out and not hit the target all at once. However, at close range it could work, as plasma is fairly devastating, as that what anti-armor weapons use.
