Here are some more information for Plasma Welding:

A lot of people are curious about plasma cutting. Most of them enter the world of plasma cutting through the CNC field. This is one of the most valuable tools for wide-range businesses today. It is a versatile tool widely used by manufacturing and construction companies today. How does a plasma cutter work and how efficient are these tools? These are just a few questions that we will be able to address as we discuss anything and everything about plasma cutters in the succeeding texts.
CNC cutter come in a variety of sizes. The sizes and the styles of the cutter are dependent on the type of material it can cut to pieces. At the same time, the (plasma) cutters have specialized functionalities that is distinct than other CNC machineries. Say for instance, the giant plate units for burning can cut up to 2 inches of thick steel.
There are actually a lot to choose from. There is high-technology and high definition units that are as good as laser in terms of performance and accuracy. Plasma cutters differ in specifications and specialization, depending on the type of metal they treat.
On the other hand, there are available plasma cutter nowadays that are computer-operated and can make business processes with ease and could simplify certain production processes. The hard disk of the computer is used to store different dimensions and specifications of the cuts to make sure that the cut will be more precise and accurate. Since plasma cutters tackle complex shapes in shaping metals, errors should be at the minimum. To ensure 0% errors, companies prefer to have the computerized type of plasma cutter to ascertain accuracy and precision, leaving the cut flawless and efficient. Metal fabrication and treatment can also be carried out while subjecting the metal to cutting.
The efficiency of CNC plasma cutters are the edge of some multi-national companies in providing efficient and time-bound supplies with the metal distributors. At some point, they could even exceed their cottas and make sure of the average productivity with time interval can be achieved. Of course, with the aid of computerized plasma cutters, the performance of the companies in cutting high-grade metals and delicate materials are far beyond compare. At some point, they are considering business expansions and promotions, to heighten productivity and marketing strategies.
Computerized plasma cutters, despite of their flaws encompasses the usual way of cutting metals. It is a powerful tool and mostly used by metal processing companies and corporations whose line of business pertains to the cutting and processing of the different types of metals. One of the questions that might be raised is the ability of the machine to cut out a portion of the entire whole.
Yes, it is very much possible since the machines have specialized function to drive around the table and cut a piece from the entire whole. It is somewhat similar to what lasers can do in cutting high-grade metals as well. However, CNC plasma-cutters are less expensive than laser cutters are, at the same time they require less maintenance compared with commercial laser cutters.

IGBT vs MOSFET in a Welder or Plasma Cutter
In order to help you choose IGBT or MOSFET Welders/Cutters, you will come to a conclusion more accurately after taking into consideration the pros and cons of both technologies, along with the purpose of their use, commercial/industrial/professional or enthusiasts. To make a decision you will need to understand what type of application you are going to use the welders for whether it is commercial welding or garage or small shop welding take your pick of equipment is the best alternative for those who wish to make an informed choice. Remember, the IGBT welders and cutters are bit a pricier so please take that into account as well.
Longevity MOSFET Welders/Plasma Cutters use MOSFET technology, which is most commonly used when the amplification or switching of electronic signals is the need of the hour. Longevity has designed welding equipment featuring MOFET technology to keep the cost low for hobbyist and enthusiasts. Longevity uses MOSFET technology in plasma cutters and welders that require less strenuous use or on less powerful, smaller amperage equipment. This technology, when applied in a welder/cutter can ensure optimum utilization of available electrical power so that too much power is not allowed to flow through the circuit gateway of the device. This technology of MOSFET Welders and plasma cutters is quite beneficial in ensuring that the gateways of coupling circuits do not burn out due to overexposure to high voltage current flow. This metal oxide semi conductor field effect transistor technology is a popular choice among users of welding equipment if they are looking for a compact yet highly efficient machine to perform exceptional welding jobs. This genre of welders has been gaining in popularity from the time the MOSFET technology was invented in 1959 by two extremely dedicated research scientists of Bell Labs who have been extremely devoted to electronic research. Since the invention, Longevity MOSFET plasma cutters and welders are enable the welding population to use smaller and more affordable welding/cutting equipment for their jobs.
IGBT Welders are those welding machines which employ the Insulated Gate bipolar Transistors in their internal electronic circuits. The IGBT is a power semi conductor device with three terminals well known for its high efficiency and fast switching. It is being fitted in many modern electronic appliances, including cars, stereo systems and even refrigerators, apart from IGBT. This technology is very effective where there is a high requirement of switching amplification. The IGBT Welders have technology that is designed to rapidly switch the device on and off, and this allows the machine to synthesize complex wave forms with both, pulse with modulations and low pass filters. The IGBT can compile the gate drive feature of MOSFET with the low saturation and high current capabilities of the bipolar transistors of former fame. The IGBT technology is used in controlling large amounts of power. These welders are quite popular with the users who require high pulse ratings in comparatively low prices. Longevity IGBT Welders and Cutters are built for more commercial and heavy duty applications. The use of this technology allows Longevity to provide welding equipment that is designed for professional and industrial job requirements.
Whichever of the two, MOSFET vs IGBT Welders/Plasma Cutters that you may choose, Longevity has a variety of models in both technologies and all can be viewed at www.longevity-inc.com. With easy transportability and a greater amount of superiority in the welder features, Longevity welders and plasma cutters are truly world class. If you are deciding which is better and still having a hard time concluding, please note that both IGBT or MOSFET technologies are covered by Longevity’s unmatched 5-YEAR parts and labor warranty. Without a doubt, an inexpensive means to achieve the perfect balance between technology and excellent output, the welder models that are available at Longevity truly offer a better durability to the clients.

What Welder to get?
I am looking into getting a welder and need help selecting a model. I need a very versatile welder, since I will be welding a large variety of materials and thicknesses. At the least, I need something that can weld thin metal (automobile exhaust, maybe stainless) and weld up to 1/2" steel. I would also like to be able to weld aluminum. What would make the best welder for this type of versatility. Also, what would be a good plasma cutter? Thanks

This is a good welding forum that will give you a lot of information and advice.
I would strongly recommend you start by taking a welding course at your local votech school. There you can lean to weld different materials with different types of welders so you will know what you want.
Quick answers--
AC/DC (stick) machine will weld steel from car body thickness up to half-inch or better.
A MIG (wire) will also weld thin to thick metal and, with changes in gas and wire, can also weld aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, etc. but costs more than a stick machine.
TIG (HeliArc) costs even more but can weld very thin metal as well as aluminum and other "special" alloys. TIG is also the most difficult type to learn to operate.
