PETG Plastic Sheet .060" x 24" x 48" - Matte Finish - Lexan - Acrylic Sale Price: $15.88 |
|
PETG is a thermoplastic sheet used in engineering applications. PETG offers the capability to produce complex shapes, precise details, deep draws and compound curves without worrying about durability. It's easily formed, die-cut and punched. It brings increased design freedom and lower fabrication costs. In sheet form, PETG has the impact strength and fabrication ease that acrylic can't touch. It offers high impact strength, good clarity, and is easily formed, punched and fabricated. Matte Finish offers a non-glare surface perfect for framing pictures, posters or artwork. When the print is touching the sheet, it is crystal clear and offers a non-glare surface. When the material is moved away from the print it acts like privacy glass and everything looks blurry when looking through the sheet. |

GREEN Signage and Display Solutions for Business
Did you know?
Many people do not realise the impact to the environment that a simple sign, display or graphic has to the environment. Let me start by saying that i am not a scientific expert and have no collected data, but i will tell you what i know and what practical steps and questions you can undertake the next time you advertise. WHY? because the Earth is OUR HOME!
What Impact?
For an Example, let's start with a basic product that is used commonly in nearly every store in nearly every part of the world. A Perspex board sign with vinyl lettering.
Ok, so at the factory in Malaysia, they will use acrylic resin (a byproduct of oil) which may be useful instead of putting it in the ground. Each sheet has a low tack PS or PE mask to protect the sheet (please use PE or plastic masked as it can be re-cycled and is easier to peel off).
Next we come to the vinyl lettering, A real environmental disaster. Most advertising signs use this product which involves a wax coated liner and a pre-mask that gets thrown away and can't be re-cycled. On top of that, eventually the actual signs get thrown away and the vinyl itself can't be recycled. Probably tens of thousands of meters of vinyl clogs landfill every day.
What can we do?
Everybody can do something. I'm sure there will be some study in the future of digital signage vs traditional (electrical costs etc) but in the mean time, there are some great alternatives out there.
For all outdoor and most indoor wall advertising boards, use Aluminium composite boards (contact us for different brands). Aluminum composite boards are not only light weight (which cuts down on structure material), but they are rigid and come in a large range of colours. This material is 100% recyclable and re-usable, has sound and thermal properties and uses efficient manufacturing process.
For illuminated signage, switch to LED solutions. Lexan makes a great Polycarbonate opal panel which is suitable for LED lights without spotting.
For all printing and graphics use the latest technology - Flatbed printing. Flatbed printing will allow direct print to most substrates (including the above suggestions). This will prevent all the wax paper land fill.
Recycle!
Some companies will offer to recycle existing displays and signs. Some businesses think this involves more labour, but we'd rather follow the mentality of - why throw it away, it'll come in handy for something. Materials like Plexiglass can also be recycled or re-used.

Plexiglas For Your Car Audio
Surely you have heard of Plexiglas and all the benefits that surround such an absolutely brilliant invention for mankind. Imagine there is also use for it inside your car and for your car audio system . In fact this Plexiglas is actually used to protect your car audio system from harm, if the head unit as well as the other accessories and parts of the car audio system are protected by Plexiglas then this means that you get to keep it protected from a lot of things. For instance, all your accessories such as the amplifiers and the speakers and your head unit as well will be shielded well form dust and grime that can cause problems for the proper function of the audio system as a whole. Also, if you have little children who ride in your car often you also get to keep all the controls of the audio system away from them and thus well protected.
The best part about the Plexiglas being used as a cover for the controls and the head unit and the accessories of the car audio unit is that it looks just like a clear plastic sheet but however it isn't and can in fact be shaped by cutting and etching into whatever desired shape that you like. You can even polish it and create a pretty effect. However getting it into the desired shape and size that you want can actually take up some of your time and would need patience to be dealt with; though the whole procedure is not very difficult to carry out.
You could cut the Plexiglas for use as a shield for the audio system in your car. You could cut it with a simple table saw or some other kind of saw. But just be careful while you are sawing through the Plexiglas because there will be a shower of shavings that comes off of such Plexiglas being sawed so you would need gear for the protection of your eyes and in fact your whole face. In fact Plexiglas can even be scored through just like you would do with glass. Plexiglas or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) comes in many grades, and is called by many names. Acrylic, plexiglass, plexi and lexan being the most common. Acrylic is a compound used to make Plexiglas from chemical compounds that contain the acryl group derived from acrylic acid. Plexiglass (with 2 s's) is a tradename or trademarked by a company named Rohm & Haas. Plexi is just a shortened version. Lexan is Polycarbonate, and reacts differently to tooling than Plexiglas.
You could also use the table saw for creating an edging effect; you would have to saw through the edges of the Plexiglas at various angles so that the edging effect can be created. You could also use a router to do the same; however the use of one would have to be done very carefully indeed.
Lastly, you could even bend the Plexiglas to the right size and shape that you would want to cover the audio system of your car with. You would need a heating process for this where you heat the portion of the Plexiglas that you wish to bend using some kind of a small torch and then physically bend that portion. You will need assistance for this process.

how do i light up plexiglass/acrylic?
okay so i was watching trick my truck and they used either lexan, plexiglass, or acrylic (i do not know which). well, they cut/engraved a design (u.s. map) in the material and then used a light source (LEDs probably) to light up the etched out area on the material. does anyone know what this process is called and how it's done? i wanted to use that process to make my own design. any answers would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure of the "name" of the process, but you sand the bottom or top EDGE of the plexi, and then shine the light "up" through the plexi.
Back in the 1980's, we had to build a BOX under the plexi to contain a fluorescent or incandescent light source... No light slipping out to ANYTHING but the edge of the Plexiglas.
I'm sure LED's are a better source... lumens with lower wattage and less heat.
I hope someone can give you some good links
