AC-DC Power Supplies And Currents
Power Supplies can be divided into two types for electronic devices, linear and switching power supplies. A switching mode power supply has the same rating as a Linear Power Supply but will be a lot more complex and usually Switching Mode Power Supplies are smaller. A Linear Power Supply is used for high current devices. They tend to be a lot bigger and bulkier than the Switching Mode Power Supply and a lot simpler in design.
Linear Power Supplies powered by AC tend to require the use of a transformer to convert the voltage from the mains outlet to a different voltage, this tends to be converted to a lower voltage. However a Rectifier is needed if it is used to produce DC, In addition a capacitor will be used smoothing the pulsating current from the rectifier. what power supply do you recommend when using a 9500gt?
My max output power on my current power supply is 300w. The 9500gt says it requires a minimum of 350w. Sorry if i don't make any sense but what power supply and the amount of watts do i need?
300W sounds like enough for stable use, because I have a 350W supply and an overclocked 9600GT and it runs pretty well. The 12V rail is 18 amps and they recommend 26 amps, but it's been running just fine so far (about 3 months).
So the real question is if you have enough amperage. How many amps are on the 12V rail on your power supply?
Note: EVGA recommends 18 amps on the 12V rail and a 350 watt power supply. A 300 watt supply should work though.
