The Hobart Trek 180 is a portable battery powered mig welder. The only one ever made that has enough sack to weld 3/8" thick steel.
I had a chance to do a review on a Hobart Trek 180 mig machine and I really put it thru the ringer. Most welding machine reviews I have read only go so far as running a bead or two. I did that too, but I took it a step further...
I actually welded an AWS standard bend test with it! But did it pass?
The Hobart Trek 180 is capable of running either.024" --.035" bare wire or.030" or.035" flux core welding wire.
The bend test I did was with the smaller.024" diameter ER70S-6 bare wire and 75/25 argon/CO2 shielding gas.
The test metal was 3/8" thick and was welded in the vertical position. The root pass was welded downhill and the rest of the welding passes were done uphill.
Halfway thru the last pass the low battery light came on and the machine quit welding. So I plugged in into a 115v 20 amp breaker, let it charge for about 20 minutes and finished the weld.
Then I cut 2 bend straps out of the plate, ground the weld smooth and bend the straps 180 degrees on the weld. One root bend and one face bend were tested.
The results? A little indication on the side of one of the straps indicated a bit of sidewall lack of fusion but other than that...
It passed the bend test.

Things To Consider Before Buying a TIG Welder
There is a long list of benefits that TIG welding has to offer to us. It is also known as GTAW. TIG is expanded as Tungsten Inert Gas and GTAW as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. There are some cases where you cannot use TIG welder with full efficiency that they are known for. Let us see;

While having to perform jobs that do not require great quality but quantity within a stipulated time is highly demanded, then MIG welders can do the trick. This should not degrade the value of MIG; it is just that professionals and the like have enhanced the worth of its counterpart.
Metal thickness
Choose a type of equipment keeping in mind the thickness of the material that needs to be welded. MIG or Stick process cannot be used for metals which are thousand of inch in thickness. This is because they heat up the metal way too much than needed. Whereas, they will serve to be the best choice while welding metals that are ½” in thickness. They cut them much faster and efficiently.
Machine efficiency
Decide upon the power of the machine that is required to finish the weld. People who do welding as a hobby would not require the high tech TIG to do trivial welding tasks. This will not be the case with industrial welding where power is the key.

why won't this gas powered welder work?
my uncle has a gas powered welder in his back yard and me and my friend where working on it to get it running [my uncle is almost 70 so he really can't do a lot of work]. my buddy checked the spark plug, [he held it and it bit him 
], has gas in it, it has a new condenser on it and I took apart the carbarater and cleaned it. so it should run it won't go. we can't get the spark plug but I think if we can get it out and replace it might work or it might not even be gauged right. all three of use have no idea except a new spark plug.
any suggestions?
you have to get the plug out to diagnose. see if it sparks, see if it gets wet,ue. dose it have compression. . a shot of gas in the carb see if it is a fuel thing.
