Photographers..Hard Cases...Help Deciding..?
I use expensive delicate digital equipment and would like to purchase a hard protective case for transportation of this equipment when i travel. I have been referred to the Pelican brand of protective cases, but am unable to decide having not owned something of this nature previously. I need something adequate for a large digital body, 2 to 3 lenses, 2 flash units, lens filters, general accessories (batteries, cleaners, etc.) and possibly capable of holding a 35mm film body as well as an additional lens for that. Any assistance or guidance towards features, brands, or functions would be greatly appreciated.
Lowe's sometimes carries a hard case with foam inserts for a fraction of the price of a Pelican. Sears does as well. You punch out the foam squares to fit your equipment. I got mine a few years ago, I believe at the time it was under $50. Of course, it won't float, but I don't take my good equipment where floating will be important! Mine is called Vanguard, I don't remember the model number. It is pretty roomy and on rolling wheels. I carry 2 bodies, 2 flashes, three lenses plus one attached to a body, and a few filters, cords etc. It has made many trips with me over the past several years. Only thing, in small regional jets, it won't fit in the overhead bin.
