How to Effectively Remove the Chemicals Found in Tap Water
If you are like me, you probably are concerned about the quality of water being delivered to your home from the water company. And you are right to be so. The chemicals found in tap water today are no laughing matter.
According to a study, at point or the other, a total of over 80,000 chemicals have been found to be present in our water supply. Of these chemicals found in tap water, around 2100 are known carcinogens. This is a grave threat to your and your family’s health.
To find out the best way to get rid of these chemicals, first we need to identify what exactly are we dealing with here.
The number one chemical found in our tap water today is – chlorine. This chemical is deliberately added into the water supply to keep the stored water bacteria free. The problem is, the water sources are so contaminated today, that very high doses of chlorine have to be added in the water to be able to kill the bacteria in it.
When the permissible levels of chlorine are not enough to remove the microbes from the water, then its stronger version Chloramine is used. It is an even more potent poison than chlorine.
You can think of these two chemicals as a necessary evil. We do need to get rid of the bacteria from the water, but at what cost? How could something so deadly be good for our health?
Another group of chemicals commonly known as fluorides are also intentionally added into our water supply. The theory behind this is the added fluoride would protect our teeth from decay.
Fact is – multiple studies over the years have failed to find any correlation between high levels of flouride and good dental health. If anything, over exposure to this chemical can lead to dental and skeletal flourosis- which means decayed and damaged teeth, and painful joints.
Other chemicals that can be found in abundance in tap water include pesticides and herbicides, and prescription drugs like hormone enhancers and aspirin.
Now you may, and actually should, drink only filtered tap water to protect yourself from all these health issues. But the purity of the water is highly dependent on the type of water purifier that you use.
The usual carbon filters and reverse osmosis filters are old technology now and are just not able to cope with these chemicals found in tap water. Instead, a cutting edge purifier armed with ion exchange mechanism, carbon filtration and sub micron filtration techniques is the best protection against these chemicals.
Some food for thought there. Chemicals found in tap water can be handled. You just need to have the right equipment.
