High-Strength Neoprene Rubber Sheet, Adhesive Backed, 60A Durometer, Smooth, Black, 1/32" Thick, 12" Width, 24" Length Sale Price: $9.47 |
|
High strength neoprene is a very good choice for gasketing between flanges with a high bolt load. Used primarily as a flange gasket, this material is so strong and durable it doesn’t fail over thermal cycling and wet, oily or abrasive environments. Neoprene Rubber is used for demanding applications that involve tough rubber that has a high resistance to tearing and a higher susceptibility to corrosion. |

Neoprene (Chloroprene) is an excellent all purpose rubber which was developed in the 1930s. It is chemically and structurally similar to natural rubber with like mechanical properties. Its resistance to oils, chemicals, UV, weathering , aging, and ozone is excellent. Compression set is superior to natural rubber and it is one of the few elastomers that does not support combustion. It will retain its properties up to 250 F. Exhibits superior resistance to gas permeability over natural rubber. |

There are several factors you should consider before selecting work gloves that fit with your work types and working conditions. In chemical plant operation where various hazardous chemicals handled and multiple activities that can harm worker's hands done, reliable work gloves could prevent workers from injuries.
Work glove is a part of the whole personal protective equipments that are used by workers. Like other personal protective equipments, they can only give adequate protection if they are selected with care and meet the required working conditions as well as the applicable industrial standards.
Work gloves act as defense against various hazards like chemical burns, thermal burns, electric current, cutting, aberration and puncture. They are the last defense against those hazards. Just relying on them is too risky.
Even though you will use work groves, hazard identification and risk assessment have to be performed completely. Hazard control hierarchy should be also followed.
Work Related Hand Injuries Statistics
In the US, each year more than 1 million workers receive treatment in emergency department for acute hand injuries (hsutx.edu). Meanwhile, 110.000 workers with hand and fingers injuries lose work days annually as estimated by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
A study that was conducted by researchers at the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety, in collaboration with colleagues at the Harvard School of Public Health found that the most common occupational acute hand injury was a laceration (63 percent), followed by crush injury (13 percent), avulsion (8 percent), puncture (6 percent), fracture (5 percent), contusion (1 percent), and dislocation (0.1 percent).
The good news is that the use of work gloves as mentioned by the study significantly reduced hand injury risk by 60 percent.
All Start From the Right Types
Selecting the right type of work gloves is the key. Types of glove materials that are commonly used in chemical plant are summarized below.
Cloth or cotton glove: protects hands against rough surface, wood slivers, a number of temperature ranges and dirt.
Leather glove: protects hands against chips, ragged edges, sparks, moderate heat and sharp edges.
Metal mesh glove: protects hand from tools that have sheet metal, sharp blades and any other tools or machine parts that can cut hands or fingers.
Rubber glove: protects workers from electric hazard.
Impervious glove: protects workers from hazardous chemicals and hazardous substances. It is usually made of latex, vinyl, PVC and neoprene.
Aluminized glove: protects workers from very high temperature and flames.
Work gloves are also categorized by types of general purposes, chemical-resistant, cut resistant, abrasion protection and grip, cold protection, heat protection and puncture resistant.
Conclusion
Work gloves play vital role in preventing hands and fingers injuries. However, even though work gloves could reduce hand injury risk by 60 percent, but it does not mean that we can not just rely on them. Selecting the most appropriate type of work gloves and placing reliable hazard controls will ensure the safest conditions for your hands.

Liquid Rubber Coatings For Roof Repair
Liquid Rubber is a unique product that has a successful track record in the world market for over 20 years. It is the only LIQUID EPDM in the world. Liquid rubber has a resistance for the extremes of temperature.
Liquid Rubber coating has 300% elasticity. Liquid Rubber forms a waterproof and seamless coating immediately when applied. It will even standup to a light shower even when the material is still drying. Liquid Rubber retains its specifications even in extreme temperatures. Liquid Rubber will take temperatures from -60 to 300 degrees. It is resistant to UV and Ozone, can be used with full confidence on places that are exposed to constant sunlight. Liquid roof features very high flexibility and crack-bridging ability.
Liquid Rubber is a high performance emulsion to seal roof leaks. Both components of liquid rubber are waterborne & applied using a specifically designed delivery system to create a seamless membrane.
Liquid Rubber is a protective coating. Liquid Rubber is based on environment friendly, reliable and durable high quality materials.
Difference Between Liquid EPDM and other Materials.
- Identical to sheet EPDM but a liquid
- Easy Application
- Goes on virtually all surfaces

For Neoprene:
If Neoprene rubber has been Talced then this should be removed by washing with detergent or wiping with solvent soaked rag. Liquid Rubber can be applied directly to Neoprene. Some swelling of the Neoprene should be expected but this will recover over time. The distortion resulting from the swelling will be greater if Neoprene is thin and not adhered to a rigid substrate.
For Polyurethane:
A light sanding of the surface is recommended for better adhesion. No swelling will occur.
About the Author
Author has done a lot of research work on different roof coating materials and have written many articles on roofing materials like epdm coatings. In addition, the author is well aware about the problem of roof leaks and has recommended EPDM as a best roofing material for leaking problems through his articles.
Would I be able to make my own wetsuit if I bought neoprene sheets? If so, how would I be able to do that?
I want to make my own mermaid tail, and I learned that in the H2O: Just Add Water series the creators used neoprene for the inside part. So I want to make a neoprene "tail" for the inside of my tail, but I don't know if I would be able to do that with neoprene sheets or how I would do it. Please help me, and any info relevant to the question will be much appreciated!
With the money you would spend on the material and the machines to sew it, you are better off buying it off the shelf.
