Toilets operate with what we call compression washers; install the compression washer and make sure that the whole assemblage is secured tightly. No leaks means less water wasted.
3. The drain plug for the new toilet should be cleaned thoroughly of any debris that might hinder the passage of water. Papers and small plastic pieces should be removed. After the cleaning, the flange should be finally secured.
4. Wax seals are included to make sure that the base of the toilet bowl and therefore, the water and all its future contents would not spill unto the surface of the bathroom. Place the wax seal on the toilet correctly as well.
5. Silicon caulk or other similar bonding agents can be placed in addition to the wax seal to make sure what has to go down, will go down, and not out.
6. If you have no one to help you out in this particular do it yourself project, it's alright. The task can be done splendidly by even just one person. The success depends largely on your own familiarity with your bathroom and the basic principles of plumbing. I am placing a toilet on a slanted flange. Two questions...?
After putting a spacer on the flange, one side is flush with the floor, and the other is 1/4" below. First of all, is it okay if I just lay the spacer over the flange without silicone? That makes removal much easier incase I one day need to, but I'm worried it would leak. I'll be putting an extended wax ring on top of the spacer, which will bring the wax ring on one side 1.5 inches above the tile, and on the other side 1.25 inches. Is this okay? I could put two wax rings instead of the spacer, but I heard this could cause a leak or plug if one ring slips. Is that true? Please help, thanks!
Use the wax ring that has the plastic inner cone, this will guide the waste and the wax will seal. They are sold a home depot for about $3 and come with all the necessary anchors needed for the job. One ring is enough and the one i suggested also prevents wax from mooshing into the drain pipe while setting the toilet.
