The only problem I have with running hot as I can, is the 2nd pass looks good, but the root falls flat on the inside of the pipe. When you Xray it shows up with undercut. I am welding a 1/4 thick pipe by 6'. I am running my 2nd pass at 147amps.
as hot as you can and still control the puddle.
It shouldn't show as undercut maybe you undercut on the root.
Try running a colder root pass, but leave it on longer to tie in- or maybe you are leaving it too long and that is when it falls out to look like under cut, If you get root in right the second pass is good to go!
