Blazer SI-100CR Excalibur Multi-Purpose Butane Torch and Hot Air Soldering Kit Blazer SI-100CR Excalibur Multi-Purpose Butane Torch and Hot Air Soldering Kit
List Price: $99.95
Sale Price: $43.95

The Blazer SI-100 Excalibur, multi-purpose, butane torch and hot air soldering kit is a tool kit that provides tools for soldering, hot air blowing and torch flame needs. The torch creates a precise flame emitting from a nozzle head, allowing direct heat application to an object. It is commonly used for detailed purposes such as brazing, plumbing, soldering, heating, jewelry making, and culinary, dental, and lab applications. Tools within the kit are also used for electronic, automotive, woodworking, lapidary, and general maintenance. The SI-100 is a multi-purpose tool kit, providing a self-igniting and cordless soldering iron, hot air blower and refillable butane gas torch. The set includes five, interchangeable tip choices: reflector, hot air blower, knife, one 3.5-millimeter chisel and one 3.0-millimeter diagonal. It also comes with a wrench, sponge, and one tube of 60/40 coiled silver tube of solder. The torch features a child-resistant mechanism, and an instant ignition switch. The torch houses a piezoelectric ignition system, which is based on a pressurized molecular reaction, and requires no electric connection. Piezoelectric energy occurs when the trigger is activated, releasing a small, spring-loaded internal hammer that strikes a crystal, producing a spark and resulting in gas flame ignition. With a maximum flame temperature of 2,500 degrees F, the torch has a 7.0-gram gas capacity, weighs 4.9 ounces and is 9.0 (l) inches. The case measures 10.25 (l) x 4.38 (w) x 1.5 (h) inches. This product is intended strictly for use in professional and industrial environments. In accordance with federal regulations, home use of this product is prohibited. Since 1985, Blazer Products has created an array of professional and industrial tools and equipment. Located in Farmingdale, NY, the company manufactures a variety of torches and ultrasonic cleaners. Blazer Products is known worldwide for its original micro torch products. The SI-100 kit comes in a hard shell carrying case, and the torch operates with a standard butane canister (sold separately).

Tip 1: Find a Reputable Vehicle Wrap Business

Installing a vehicle wrap can be a daunting process, and while these 7 tips will certainly help you sometimes it is better to let a professional do the work for you. It is highly recommended that you seek a professional and knowledgeable vehicle wrap business to perform the vehicle wrap installation and vehicle wrap design. With that said, it is not impossible to wrap a vehicle on your own if you follow these tips.

Tip 2: Choose the Right Vehicle Wrap Material

There are a number of materials that can be used in the design and installation of a custom vehicle graphics. Aluminum, Acrylic, PVC, wood, polystyrene, foam and other plastics, can all be used to create custom vehicle graphics. However, the most commonly used and the material most highly recommended is Vinyl. Vinyl vehicle wraps are cost effective, durable, and maintain their look and feel for up to 5 years.

Tip 3: Use the Correct Vehicle Wrap Equipment

If you are going to install a car wrap whether it is for race car graphics, or you are just wrapping the company van, you are going to need the proper tools to do so effectively.

o a tape measure - for positioning

o a squeegee - adheres vinyl to vehicle

o a razor-knife - remove excess vinyl

o an air release tool - removes air bubbles

o masking tape - holds vehicle wrap in position

o a heat gun or propane torch - heating the vinyl to make sure it goes into curves, crevasses etc.

Tip 4: Clean the Vehicle

Once you have the proper tools you are going to need to thoroughly clean the vehicle. This is an extremely important step. If you want the vinyl vehicle graphics to adhere properly to the vehicle it must be completely free of dirt, grime, and whatever else may hinder proper adhesion.

First, wash the vehicle with soap and water. Do not use any surface finishing such as wax as this will severely hamper adhesion. After the vehicle is completely dry you should clean it with alcohol and solvent prep liquid. I recommend paying special attention to any areas on the vehicle that may have excess dirt and grime build up such as cracks around the hood, trunk or windows. Use a lint free towel to dry the solvent before it evaporates.

Tip 5: Prepare Your Vehicle Wrap

Before you move on to installing the vinyl vehicle wrap make sure the positioning of the wrap is what you desired. You can position the wrap on the vehicle before installation simply by using some masking tape. This will ensure that when you begin to install your vehicle wrap or fleet graphics everything will be in the exact place you wanted it.

Tip 6: Find a Friend

An experienced wrap installer can apply a wrap on their own. Otherwise, I recommend having another person assist you in the process as this will make positioning the vehicle graphics much easier. Each wrap installation is different depending on the vehicle. The amount of curves, cracks, and crevasses on a particular vehicle all determine how difficult or easy an installation will be.

Tip 7: Proper Installation of Your Custom Vehicle Graphics

Make sure you apply an adhesive to all edges and surfaces where the vinyl panel will need to be cut. Once you have applied the panel to the vehicle, work your squeegee to adhere the vinyl to the vehicles surface.

The most important things to avoid while performing the vehicle graphic installation are bubbles, and wrinkles. To avoid this, try changing the angle at which you are using the squeegee and never chop at the material because this will only make the wrinkles worse.

If wrinkles are becoming a major issue use your heat gun or torch to relax the vinyl. Be sure to let the vinyl film cool down before starting to squeegee again to prevent excess stretching.

These basic tips should guide you on your way to a successful vehicle wrap installation. Keep in mind that there are businesses that specialize in vehicle wrap installation that can do an excellent job and have your car back to you in approximately three days for a very fair price (depending on the company). Search around for some quotes, and preview any companies design before you make a final decision, should you decide that wrapping a vehicle on your own is not an option.

Olympia 2008 - the Olympic Flame on Its Way

The Olympic Torch was lit on Monday, March 31st, in the Chinese capital of Beijing. The flame was at first brought from the antic Olympia to the Panathinaikon Stadium in Athens. With the hope that the message of peace will be carried through the whole world the president of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Minos Kyriakou, handed the flame over to the principal of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Liu Qi.

There were around 10.000 spectators at the ceremony. From Athens the flame was brought to Beijing on a special flight of the airline Air China. The plane had the inscription “Journey of Harmony” and the Chinese national colors red and yellow. The national TV and hundreds of school kids with Chinese and Olympic flags in their hands were waiting for the arrival.

Liu Qi carried the flame out of the plane in a little lantern and brought it to the red carpeted Gate of Heavenly Peace. There the head of state and party leader lighted the torch and handed it over to China’s most famous athlete, the hurdler Liu Xiang.

Due to worries about protest actions, as there had been at the lighting ceremony at the historical site of Olympia in Greece, the hour-long event was accompanied by severe security precautions. Several policemen were present in the area, even at the surrounding roofs. The traffic was temporary paralyzed, some underground stations were blocked and walkers and cyclists were kept away.

To avoid protest actions there was no information about the details of the ceremony until Sunday. Unfortunately the organizers couldn’t keep away all of the demonstrators but the actions of these were not shown in the TV, because the alleged ‘public viewing’ was actually broadcasted with a one-minute delay. At the Tiananmen Square were only the 5000 imitated spectators allowed, including 220 foreign journalists. Some of the originally invited journalists were due to security reasons disinvited.

Most of the European politicians stayed away from the ceremony. The Czech Foreign Minister Karl Schwarzenberg had demanded the boycott of the opening ceremony. The reasons for the absence of several politicians, if due to personal or political motives, are not known. The German chancellor Angela Merkel assured her absence had nothing to do with a boycott. She had decided to don’t travel to Beijing long time before the disputes with Tibet started.

The ceremony was accompanied by a spectacular program, such as circus acrobatics and folklore dances were also some Tibetans in their traditional costumes participated. China’s Vice President Xi Jinping declared satisfied that the centuries-old dream of the Chinese nation to host Olympic Games finally became true.

During the following 130 days the torch will make its journey across the world. Planned is a relay across 20 countries with a distance of more than 137.000 kilometers on five continents. This will be the longest torch relay in the Olympic history. Highlight of the relay will be the carrying of the flame to the world’s highest mountain, the Mount Everest. For this sensation there has been diverted already a part of a flame to bring it to the base camp of the for the Tibetans holy mountain. However; it is still not sure if this part of the route will be accomplished. The human rights group ‘Human Rights Watch’ demands the independent investigation of the disturbances before the torch may be carried through Tibet.

On Wednesday the torch was first carried to the Kazakh city Almaty and it is supposed to arrive to China again on May 4th 2008. Then it will be carried through more than 100 Chinese cities. At the same time the Dalai Lama sent another torch on its way, the ‘Flame of Independence’. The torch was lit in the Indian city Dharamsala where the exile of the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan Buddhists is located.

What do you use to weld aluminum?

I am modifying my air intake on my car and need to re-weld some pieces together, Ive never welded before, and dont have a welder. Can I use one of those torch welders? Or do I need one of those MIG of TIG or whatever they are called.

Well, when I was in school, with arc welding we used a rod that was for welding aluminum. But I tell you this: if you have never welded, I would not want to learn how to do it with car pieces. Its not simple like just drawing a line. You have to know what voltages to use on the welder for what kinds of metal, and how to melt the metal and weld a good bead.

If you need welding done, have it done by a professional.
