A water resistant LED torch can cut through the clouds and rain of a thunderstorm, illuminate a darkened street at the scene of a vehicle accident, and accompany a rescue diver searching for wreckage and survivors under water. Professionals as a whole tend to prefer the inherent characteristics of an LED light source. These flashlights burn much longer than a traditional flashlight. Land Rover Discovery 2 – Carrying On The Torch
The Discovery tradition started in 1989 segues into the Discovery 2 line ten years later. Retaining much of the general look, the new Land Rover Discovery 2 was introduced in the last quarter of 1998. Casual observers couldn’t be faulted for thinking it was the same Discovery 1 with minor facelifts but it was more than that. The Rover Group had about 720 innovations integrated into the new line not only to improve performance and riding comforts for an affordable SUV, but to bring it up to speed for the incoming new 21st century just around the corner.
Improving on the Discovery 1
Despite maintaining its general exterior looks, the Discovery 1 had been reworked extensively for the new Discovery 2 that was produced as a 5-door model. It had its rear section extended to allow more loading space while causing a slight rear overhang that compromised its off-road performance.
The diesel engine was standardized with that of the Defender engine with the same 2.5 litter Td5 direct injection inline 5-cylinder. It came with a better torque at lower revs than its preceding Tdi diesel engine. As a BMW affiliate, many mistook the Td5 to be a BMW engine. But it was the same Rover L-series engine it developed for its passenger cars.
Though power was not improved, the 4.0 liter V8 petrol engine used in the previous Discovery models also got updated with a revised intake system and fitted with the ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement) more electronics to manage its hydraulic anti-roll bar system. Self-leveling air springs were fitted in 7-seater models.
After BMW sold the Rover Group to the Ford Motor company in 2000, the Discovery 2 marque continued to get Ford improvements. The gear train with the locking differential had been removed earlier as its traction control and Hill Descent Control made it redundant. But the removal caused handling problems that didn’t provide the same level of riding smoothness with it. The 2004 models reinstated the locking differential as an optional feature at cost, but it comes as a standard feature in the HSE and SE models.
Special Models
A few special edition Discovery 2 vehicles have been introduced using the more popular 5-door body variant with the rear windows made opaque to give it a van-like look. The last few improvements as its 5-year lifespan was about to end were hardly substantial.
The Land Rover Discovery 2 had its final production run in 2004 with only two new facelifted models coming out for the UK markets. One had the base model “Pursuit” and the high end “Landmark” model equipped with genuine leather seats, twin sunroofs, ACE , heated windscreens, six-disc CD changers.
The only thing substantial is the rear self-leveling suspension systems that came standard instead of being optional. The last revision were mostly cosmetics that included roof bars, interior climate control, alloy wheels and a marine ply board with rubber mat in the rear loadspace as part of its standard specs.
The last Discovery 2 left the production line in May 2004 to give way to the more modern Discovery 3 for Europe and LR3 in the US markets.

Why is China handling the olympic torch relay so badly?
In Canberra, Australia, the Chinese Embassy organised 80 bus-loads of Chinese students to intimidate peaceful Tibetan monks and protestors. They did the same in Korea. Does the Chinese government think that this sort of belligerent tactic works in a democracy? It may work in the repressive dictatorship that is China, but not in a democracy.
China badly underestimated the pent-up against it for Tibet, Darfur, human rights abuses, pollution, etc. It also badly overestimated its welcome into the league of Olympic nations.
Chinese officials can only pare down, not cancel, the torch relay ceremonies. (Cancelling it means admitting errors.)
For several decades, China got a pass on its behavior because it was a "developing nation". Developed China is now being held responsibile for its actions, just like the group of economic powerhouse nations it aspired to join.
