Hey what type of welding stick would be most appropriate for attempting to weld a washer to I think aluminum?
I've tried it once before with 6011 and that didn't work. I have 7014, 7018, and 6013 for my options. What would be best for a small washer?
Are you sure it's aluminum?
It is impossible to WELD steel to aluminum.
You can *solder* steel to aluminum. You would need to use using tin/zinc or zinc/aluminum based solder. Fur your purposes, a lead-free tin based solder is probably what you want to use; it has a low melting point and is easy to work with. A soldering iron probably won't do in this case because aluminum is a very good heat conductor, you'll need a propane torch.

Soldering aluminum requires special fluxes. I suggest go to the nearest welding supply store in your area, and ask what you need to solder aluminum to steel.
Soldering aluminum requires a bit of practice. The key is to clean items and brush joints with fine sandpaper before soldering, and to be patient and heat the joint very gently.
