This is a water removing filter designed for use in a whole house water filter that uses a 10" filter cartridge.(available on ebay or most home improvement stores) The inner filter is a standard 5 micron filter cartridge and is replaceable. The outer layer is a filter that incorporates a Superabsorbent Polymer that will absorb up to 60 times its volume in water and the impurities carried by water. This filter will not absorb vegetable oils, animal fats or petroleum oils. After the oil exits the inner filter, it is directed through the Superabsorbent Polymer layer which absorbs and holds water but allows the oil to pass right through. The bottom of the Polymer filter extends below the filter cartridge to absorb any water that might settle there. The cloth that contains the Superabsorbent Polymers is a moisture wicking cloth that will collect the water and hold it while the Polymers absorb it. Excessive filtering speed or pressure should be avoided as it will reduce the effectiveness of this and all filters. Oil should still be allowed to settle before filtering to avoid excessive water. See my other lisings for settling filters to aid with this part. The Polymers will swell as they absorb water allowing you to see when the filter should be changed. The outer filter is reusable and only needs to be cleaned and dried (directions are included). It is then attached to a new 10" cartridge and put back into service. The included pictures show how this product works. The first picture is a sample of straight vegetable oil and a sample of black diesel, both with a small Polymer filter in the bottom. It will not absorb the oil. The next picture shows a large amount of water introduced to both samples. (a coin was used to keep the filter from floating to the top of the water level) The third picture shows the swollen filters removed from the now dry samples along with the water.

The pump will build up pressure to 44 psi max and then be unable to pump anymore. No bypass is needed as the pump will not damage itself when the oil flow is stopped (usually by a nozzel) The pump should not be left on for a long period of time when restricted, as it will wear down the vanes, but it is ok for normal usage. Included with this pump are 2 straight hose barb fittings which use a viton oring to form a proper seal with the pump. Although the fittings on the pump are straight thread, most NPT fittings can be made to fit when using yellow teflon tape. Mini-Gear Oil Pump All Metal Pump This pump may be used for pumping oily liquids such as diesel, biodiesel or kerosene. It can pump vegetable oil with a continuous duty cycle if the oil is not too thick. Generally speaking, vegetable oil will need to be around 75° F or higher, depending on how thick it is for this pump to maintain a continuous duty cycle. This pump works excellent for biodiesel processor applications. It is not recommended for pumping heavy oils such as motor oil as the duty cycle is greatly reduced. The mini-gear pump is a pump attached to the motor by a shaft. The pump itself is all metal (metal gears) and can pump hot fluids without overheating the detached motor. The motor is high power and has thermal protection, which will automatically shut off the pump in case of the risk of overheating. These pumps create powerful suction and are self-priming. They can run dry for intermediate amounts of time, allowing for the use of a suction hose for collecting fluids from a tank. These pumps are so powertful they will actually pull and push air through the hose. The metal gears which drive the pumping action can handle a lot of fluids, even if partially dirty. In the case of vegetable oil, any soft particles will pass right through the pump wilth no problems, and are often pulverised by the gears themselves. Hard materials, such as metals, should not be allowed to pass through the pump to prevent damage.
