Welding/Cutting lead paint, any way for it to be safe?
I've encountered lead paint at my job. They hired a contractor to remove the lead paint, but they weren't able to get all of it out. Now they're telling us we're going to have to work on it anyways.
This means I'm going to have to weld and/or cut on the lead paint. They're going to give us overalls, a 3M particulate mask (I really question the thing actually prevents lead paint, looks like a damn dusk mask), and require us to shower at the end of the work day.
Lead can enter your body through your skin, not just your lungs, and this doesn't even sound safe at all.
Plus, I'm not even sure if you should be be burning lead paint, if you a professional couldn't remove it, then it shouldn't even be worked on at all in my eyes.
What do you guys think? Can you even be 100% safe here or not? What should I do?
I should also add that it's not a full layer of lead paint on the steel, it's just a lot of remnants left on the steel from the lead paint they weren't able to get.
Stop.. you require an air supply to an enclosed mask.. A 3m will not do a thing for you.. There are procedures available for you to follow.. Contact your area technical institute and they can advise you on minimum standards.. I do not know where you are.. If you are in India there are no regulations however in USA research has indicated that you require a closed circuit breathing apparatus.. It will make you sick..tired... lethargic.. and can cause severe skin problems.. You can accumulate lead in your vital organs..
