Here are some more information for Welder Weld:

The E7018 is the most commonly used Stick welding electrode in the field. It does not matter if you are welding structural steel or pipe. This electrode will most likely be the one used for your pre employment welder qualification test, welding certifications, and it is the most widely used electrode in the field! So why not master this electrode and the best welding technique for it!
To begin forget about wide weave welds! Most high end jobs do not allow wide weaves or any beads wider the 2 1/2 times your electrode diameter! Mastering stringer beads with this electrode is the name of the game! It does not matter if you are welding in a shipyard or nuclear power plant; they will not allow anything except stringer beads!
The hands down best welding technique is just a tight side to side motion! Basically a very tight mini weave! I know it does not sound like the best answer but I also ignored this technique for a long time. Once I gave in to this technique my weld seriously improved.
The way to run this tight weave is to always drag your electrode and never pause or back up. You want to keep you travel always moving forward and side to side at the same time. If you pause, or back up, the weld will get lumpy! That is why the E7018 does not work well with the whipping motion or circles. When going forward, and side to side, the weld also gets a chance to spread out properly and at the same time preventing overlap and undercutting! Add dragging the electrode to that welding technique and your welds will always be smooth and uniform! What dragging does is allows the slag to stay behind the puddle. As long as the slag stays behind the puddle the weld will be well protected and the chances of slag inclusions will be kept to a minimum!
This Stick welding technique is so simple but it produces excellent results! Once it is mastered it won't matter what position you are welding in or what type of welding test you will need to pass to get the job!

Underwater Welding
Welding is an unavoidable process of modern engineering – civil, electrical, mechanical, automobiles, marine aeronautical – in all branches. It is used in fabrications and erections in infrastructures and installations. It joins metals or thermoplastics. Forming a pool of molten mass – the weld puddle – and allowing it to cool to become a strong joint is the basis of the process of welding. For repairing to be carried out underwater, there is a separate process. That is called underwater welding. If damaged ships are to be repaired, underwater welding is the basic technology to be used. It is a highly-specialized profession – more employed in the oil or shipping industry and also in the defense operations.
Underwater welding process is categorized into two divisions.
• Wet welding
• Dry welding
Wet welding:
In the case of wet welding, the operation is completed under water, directly exposed to the wet environment. For this purpose, a different type of electrode is used. The function is carried out manually. The welder is allowed to have freedom of movement. Hence, wet welding is the most effective, efficient and economical process.
The welding power and supply unit is placed on the surface and is connected to the welder with the help of cables and hoses.
The Advantages:
• The expenditure is very minimal. Unlike in the case of dry welding.
• The speed of the operation is extremely high.
• As the equipments are very minimum, the welding can be performed in a shorter time with minimal planning.
The Disadvantages:
• The weld is quenched is very fast under water. It decreases the ductility and impact strength an also makes the weld very porous.
• The visibility of the Welder is not up to the required level.
• The amount of voltage that can b employed is very limited. Care has to be taken so that the welder is not harmed by probable electrical shocks.
Dry Welding:
In case of dry welding, otherwise known as Hyperbaric welding, the whole operation is completed in a chamber, sealed around the structure to be welded. The chamber is filled with gas – normally helium – containing 0.5 bar oxygen. The chamber is fitted onto the pipeline and is filled with the breathable mixture of air. The operation is carried out in higher pressure. The gas tungsten arc welding process is used.
The Advantages:
• Welding can be carried out without getting affected by ocean currents and marine animals.
• Better quality welds can be used.
• From the surface itself, there is a possibility of visually monitoring joint preparation and pipe alignment.
The Disadvantages:
• The chamber is very complex. Large support equipment is needed at the surface to support the chamber.
• The expense will be very high. The cost increases proportionately to the depth under water.
• The chamber has limited reusability.
Risks & Precautions:
Both the welder and the structure are at risk. The welder has to protect himself from electric shocks. The welder has to be insulated. The voltage of the welding sets has to be controlled. Pockets of oxygen and hydrogen built up by the arc will be potentially explosive. The welder has to take precaution because nitrogen will be built up in the blood stream of the welder, when exposed to air at high pressure under the water surface. Inspection, although very difficult, is a mandatory requirement. No defects should remain. In addition to all these precautions, safe arc-welding precautions are to be taken.
Underwater welding is mostly employed in marine engineering products – in installations of oil and gas rigs. Underwater welding can be classified depending upon the types of equipments and the types of procedures involved. The most common underwater welding process, known as manual metal arc building (MMA), is employed for deep water repairing activities. Cofferdam welding process and Hyperbaric welding process are normally carried out for underwater welding operations. They are employed for welding steel pipelines, other offshore structures, submerged parts of large ships and underwater structures supporting a harbor. The safety measures include emergency air or gas supply, stand-by divers and decompression chambers.

can i use a wire feed/ MIG welder to weld together a homemade trailer......please help?
well, i came across a welder today that runs 230$. it is brand new and is a wire feed welder. i was wondering if the weld would be strong enough to hold together a homemade trailer. i will be making the trailer with angle iron as it is commonly used in most trailers. will this welder make the welds strong enough that the tralier wont fall apart. i will probably be making no bigger then a 2,000 lb capacity trailer. will this work. or do i need to get a bigger welder. i beleive it is 100 amps. i dont want to have to spend much more then 230$ if i dont have to though. the angle iron is 1/8 inch thick. also.....could you recommend some good welding sites that give free information on welding. if possible i want to buy an electric welder and not gas. but would prefer the 230$ if it will do the job. if it wont could you recommend the amount of amps i will need to weld it. thanks in advance
I would recommend that you do the learning first...and buy the welder last. The research you do into the various welding processes, will ultimately help you with your choice of machine.
100 amps is not a lot of heat in welding terms. And unless you are quite familiar with the rules of welding, you may produce unsatisfactory welds for a project as important as a trailer.
Go to the Miller and Licoln Electric websites. There is lots of great information there. Both have "learning" sections, with lots of information.
Consider if you will be able to use your welder for future projects or rapairs. If so, it may be worth your while to save up, and get a machine with higher amps, made by one of the big companies.
Learn all you can before you make your decision. Also, the book WELDER'S HANDBOOK by Richard Finch might be a good read for you. I think you can get them at Lowe's and Tractor supply, and I'm sure you can order it online. It's a great overview of welding.
Be safe. Learn all that you can. Then practice. THEN make a trailer. Welding for your own purposes is a lot of fun...and you might find all sorts of things to make once you get the hang of it.
