What are consumable electrodes? Are OAW filler rods consumable?
I have a theory test in welding and I think I know the answer but I need to be sure.
With OAW welding your referring to Oxyacetylene Welding and yes the filler metal is a consumable electrode...
The American Welding Society Definition for a consumable electrode is "An electrode that provides filler metal"...that quote is taken from the AWS A3.0:2001
The metal helps to fill the gap while the pool is molten...this in turn has the electrode being "consumed" as it is heated and introduced into the weld pool
