It is unfortunate the situation that so many Americans are in during the tough economic times, and yet, it's important keep up the routine maintenance on your automobile, otherwise you are going to pay latter with a whopping bill. Just the other day I was discussing this with a gentleman with a car, which he loved, but it was now over 20-years old - he felt as if he'd been neglecting it and was worried that it would come back to haunt him soon.
He explained that he had to have this car running to get to work, but that he was now underemployed and things were tight on the family budget. So, I explained some simple concepts to help him keep it running in tip top shape. You see, most cars on the road today are poorly maintained and those in the auto services industry each year conduct a survey as to how much money they are losing due to consumers not maintaining their vehicles.
Some might call these surveys self-serving, but facts are facts, people do not properly take care of their vehicles, which is too bad considering today's automobile is a huge investment. To make sure you do not become another statistic perhaps you look over these tips below which I have prepared:
1. First sit down with your car's instruction and operations manual and turn to the routine maintenance section. You will see a number of items which need to be inspected, or taken care of periodically; some by time date, others by mileage.
2. Get out a 5" X 7" index card and write on one side all the items which must be taken care of periodically. Such as lubrication of door hinges, tire pressure, and windshield wiper blade inspections.
3. On the back write down all the items that need to be checked, or done by mileage; such as oil changes, fluid changes, tire rotation, air cleaner change outs, etc.
4. Mark your calendar each month on a certain day when you will pull out this card to look it over.
Once you have this checklist you can leave it in your glove box and if you are getting your oil changed and they attempt to up-sell you additional services, you will know exactly what you do or do not need. If you need something they don't ask for; tell them. If they ask you to purchase something you don't need, then you can immediately decline. Please consider all this.

High Temp Gloves
A crucial item for glass fusing processes is high temperature gloves. Arms and hands necessitate shelter while laboring inside a blazing kiln. Keep in mind all the additional safety routines while working inside a furnace. Have on cotton or natural fiber clothes and the correct eye safeguard.
When attempting projects that don’t include reaching in to the kiln, more or less lightweight mitts can be worn, for instance the Ove Glove. Lightweight and slight an Ove glove is perfect shelter for simply lifting the warm kiln lid for a rapid glance.
Nevertheless, when working inside a scorching hot kiln, one should have added security. Selected events, for instance making bracelets or raking glass include reaching into the kiln for rapid phases of time and your bare arms and hands ought to be sheltered. Zetex, Kevlar and Welder’s gloves are a few of the advised gloves essential for any process that entails reaching inside a fiery kiln.
Kevlar Gloves
The generally prevalent gloves of glass fusing fans are the Kevlar gloves. They are wool-lined Kevlar gloves. These are superior for 800Farenheit/427Celsius use, with short-term use up to 1000Fahrenheit/538Celsius. They also come in lightweight gloves and sleeves. Kevlar sleeves are first-rate for protecting arms and hands from the high temperature when budging glass with tongs or raking glass with a tool.
Welder’s Gloves
Welding gloves cover up the arms and hands and are terrific for protection throughout short exposure to high temperatures. These are not suggested for any long-term exposure or high-temperature operations. Check with businesses that stock welding equipment close by or search for them on the internet.
Zetex Gloves
Zetex gloves are noted to bear the high temperature much better than normal welding gloves or Kevlar gloves. Zetex is supposed to be a high-temperature Kevlar. Zetex Plus High Heat Resistant Gloves allow one to handle scorching. These are ranked for 1500 to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. They have been used to actually grasp fused glass to situate it in a prepared mold, and also to twist glass.
While searching for gloves that will suit your individual requirements, confirm value, temperature rating, length of gloves and textile used. If in doubt, ask questions.
About the Author
I am a young retiree, with tons of time on my hands, so I have been spending my time doing glass fusing. Glass fusing is my passion, and I have started a web site to help others learn the techniques and processes of this art. I love trying different techniques in my kiln. Learning with each new firing. Haunted house ideas?
Alright, my friends and I (we are now all seniors in high school) did this haunted driveway thing last year on my driveway (it's about 900 ft long and surrounded by woods). In about two days we set it up, and had our fun as we scared probably about twenty people (I know, only twenty). After we did it we realized it could have been so much more, and could have benefited our class or some charity.
Therefore this year we want to do it again, but better than last year. That is why I'm asking you guys for advice on some scary things we can do. I'm not talking about corny scary, but seriously freaky (not gruesome, but people popping out of nowhere, etc.).
Last year we...
- had people pop out of the woods
- had a kid light his hand on fire (wd-40 + a welding glove)
- two kids with chainless chainsaws
- masks and scary costumes galore
- attempt at murder scene seen through a strobe light
- dummy dropping out of tree
If you have any ideas then please let me know
Whats really cool, is if you have a tour guide to guide the people down your driveway, and have a theme murder/suicide story to be told along the way. If you advertise this, hand fliers at school hang up fliers on walls, etc. You may be able to get groups of people to come through in shifts. Waiting in line is suspenseful in it's self! The guide could have a script to follow about the family that use to live in the house up the driveway. The dad went psycho one night, and his family went missing. There have been rumors of odd happenings and sounds coming from the woods. If you have enough volunteers, plant a person or two "in line" that knows what is going on, and have them build the suspense with the waiting customers. Have them say things like, "No, seriously, I heard that this was true!" or "OMG! I am gonna freak out!" And have them grab people, pretend to faint, or better yet, have someone in the woods jump out and seriously grab her and drag her into the woods screaming!! That would be awesome from the stand point of the other customers, because they assume she is just another person waiting to go on the tour! (Little did they know, that she was in on it all along!!) Well, it sounds like you've got your work cut out for ya! Have fun, be safe and Happy Haunting!
